Very solid, authentic Chinese food. It's definitely the best in South OC. When we were there, a friend of mine (who is Chinese from Taiwan) was told by the waiter - 'if there's something you want more authentic, ask us - we'll see if we can do it.' Basically, they've gringo-ized the menu a little bit for the tastes of OC, but if you are looking for something 'more authentic', just ask. The head chef is an excellent cook. My favorite is the Dan Dan Noodles. FYI they are closed on Tuesday. Do not go on Tuesday, you will be forced to change your plans abruptly because there are no other Chinese Food places around!

Its not PF Chang's, not that anything is wrong with PF Chan gs, but China Moon, is a family owned and managed restaurant. My Mother and Father in law use to go to their other place called China Sea. They have known Jackson and Vanessa for 20 plus years now, and are both world class Italian chefs themselves. They would never eat somewhere that wasn't clean and good. They love this place, and our whole family does. Good Food, Good place, Good people. If you know of anyplace better than this place, go there... If I could put 6 stars I would. They really are just like family. If you are on the fence about a Chinese restaurant go to this place and enjoy with a bottle of Kendal Jackson Chardonnay.

Great food and service! Only dish I thought was bland was the lobster sauce shrimp. Orange chicken was excellent! The waiters were funny. Place was packed... I recommend getting there early. I will go back! I tried this restaurant thanks to the Yelp reviews.

I met some relatives here for lunch one afternoon. Service was excellent but the food was meh. It was packed to the gills possibly due to families wanting to get out of the house. Would I go back, sure. For family reasons. LOL.

Solid Chinese food on the west coast is hard to come by. This place is pretty darn good. The "New York" style egg rolls are as close as I've come to eating a great egg roll on the west coast. 5 years ago I would have given this place 3 stars at best, but after living in Orange County for as long as I have it gets 4.

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in South Orange County! The food is fantastic. Prices might be a touch higher than other Chinese restaurants, but the quality is so much better. Everyone that works there has always been so friendly and provides great service. I would highly recommend it if you're looking for great Chinese!

i really wanted to like this place. came with a couple friends to get take-out. i got orange chicken & kung pao chicken, which comes with a side of white rice. i asked if i paid more if i could upgrade to fried rice. i love fried rice and don't care about the price, i just love accompanying it with my entrees. after a medium greeting and medium disposition, the cashier/server/host/whoever was helping us got angrier when i explained i would pay twice as much, anything to just have fried rice instead of white rice. geez, they turned pretty unfriendly pretty fast and i was not being rude, i've worked in food-service almost my whole life, first in fast-food as a teenager and the past eight years as a server everywhere from cheesecake factory to the st. regis hotel. that was a real bummer and the main reason i haven't gone back. sucked it up and got the white rice, didn't have a choice. i probably would have left if i wasn't with other people. my friend got bbq ribs, he was the one who recommended china moon and really enjoyed them, i had a bite and they were good. can't remember what my other friend got. oh soup! she loved it from what i remember. my food was ok, the kung pao was a bit greasy but i liked the vegetables and the orange chicken was pretty good. i live two minutes from this place and when i find the chance always end up going to signature's or hunter steakhouse. i ponder going back but that fried rice thing left me with such a bad taste in my mouth. not cool.

Great food! I've gone here for years now and have always been pleased. I've seen reviews say its authentic and then others say its americanized chinese food. I'd have to say it's somewhere down the middle. There's plenty of things on the menu that you would not get at a Sam Woo-esque place. But for sure not as americanized as panda express, pick up stix or a PF changs. They have alot of innovative dishes that work really well (i've never seen duck won tons or their calamari at other restaurants and they are 2 of my favorites). They are also very accommodating too and will pretty much substitute anything. I usually ask them what they recommend and I've been pleased with what I've gotten. As you can see from the other reviews, the service here takes the cake. I've been to plenty of chinese places where the servers are just rude (or even if they don't mean to be, have an attitude). The fact a large number of yelpers know the owners, jackson and vanessa, by name goes to show how friendly and interactive they are with their customers. I have never had a bad experience at this place, and as long as those two are running the show, I don't anticipate I will. Keep it up!

China Moon rocks my world! I love the two flavor shrimp and pupu platter i have been coming for 4 years and have always had amazing food. My boyfriend loves the orange peel chicken! The staff are very sweet and attentive.

Don't have to say a lot. Best sit-down Chinese we've had in the south county. Food was good, service was prompt and friendly, and the price was reasonable. I recommend the sizzling rice soup and the moo-shoo pork.

Try it - you'll like it! Best Chinese spot that I know of in South OC. Decent depth to the menu and good service. It's all quite good but try the Singapore noodles (not on the menu but just ask).

My husband and I had previously gone for lunch, it was just OK. We decided to try take out for dinner. We ordered: spring rolls, ma la chicken, chow fun, wanton soup, and chicken fried rice. Everything was again, Just OK. My biggest complaint is that all their food lacks flavor. The spicy ma la chicken was not even spicy and my chow fun was bland and oily. The spring rolls where good and their portions are large. Unfortunately this is the best Chinese i have found in the area. I think the best Chinese food i have had in the area is the Chinese restaurant located on Catalina island, but that's hard to get to every week :(

Yes, excellent food and good service. Order lots of appetizers - short ribs, potstickers, cucumber salad are all very good. Ordered family style at our last visit - cashew chicken, honey walnut shrimp, string beans - all very good. Previously ordered the scallops - stay away as they are small and smothered with red sauce, I've had much better. Overall, this place is our #1 for Chinese in South County.

I went for the first time last week. amazing food, and everyone who worked there seemed to enjoy interacting w/ the customers. Food was delicious and came out fairly fast. Our booth did have a rip in the seat so that was a minus but over all, defiantly worth checking out.

I've been to this awesome chinese restaurant twice and I like it sooo much. Very tasty food, with good poultry and meat quality. That is usually the problem with inexpensive chinese restaurants, the sauces and veggies in the dish may be full of flavor but once you take a bite of that rubbery chicken or beef it's all ruined. But not this place! And I love their booths and the rest of the decor and the staff is great too! Thanks China Moon, hope to visit again soon!

Better by the light of the moon, I say! Four of us went to China Moon today for lunch. We were across the street at the optometrist (not that good, either) and it was lunch time, around 12 PM. As I previously had stated we had gone for dinner some time ago and overall it was a very nice dinner. Thinking of a similar experience at lunch we ventured in and ordered the following dishes. Aromatic Shrimp: a tomato drenched, very sweet, crunchy type of small shrimp. None of the required characteristics that makes this dish tasty. Lukewarm in temperature. House Beef: once again a crunchy, heavily battered (where is the beef?), chewy affair with its fair dosage of sugar. Simply mediocre. I have been told the reason they put so much sugar in their dishes is to make you want to eat more. Either way, one plate was enough as it was not even finished. Imperial Seafood: lobster sauce type sauce, very light and mild with diminutive slices of fish, scallop and shrimp, with crispy veggies. Probably the best of the bunch since it had no hint of sweetness. Serving very small. Shrimp with vegetables: lots of broccoli (that has to be good, right? it certainly adds bulk!). with barely medium size shrimp and the exact same sauce. Very creative wok operator. Small mounds of rice, really small. No complaints on the rice for it vanished before major analysis was possible. House Soup: more water than anything, forget about distinctive flavor with this one and enough green onions and stuff to make it palatable. Egg Roll: crispy and average. The whole game plan for staff and ownership is speed. After all it is lunch time, no time to waste, so speed you will get. No warmth from personal touch. Kind of like get them in and get them out fast! Liked the fact that the staff favored black. Kind of classy touch. Lunch in this place is plain average, no magic display of culinary excellence in this time period. Feed 'em and cut them loose. Day is not kind to China Moon as far as quality you can taste. Maybe the name is a hint? Better by the light of the moon? Come in the evening or not at all. 2 Stars.

I'm not in a position to comment on it's authenticity as "true" Chinese food, but I can say it is one of the best Chinese I've had in south orange county. The food always tastes fresh and the menu goes beyond the typical fare. We've gone for both takeout and dine in and the service is always fast and friendly Try the two flavor shrimp--always a favorite.

My husband and I went here for the first time and it exceeded our expectations. It is a gem of a local restaurant. Had the wonton soup - highly recommend. Ordered beef and asparagus and it was delicious. The service was perfection and we will definitely be going back many times over.

Some of the best traditional Chinese food I've ever had. This place is awesome--you won't be disappointed! I miss it now that we've moved away. This is the restaurant I measure all other Chinese food against, and have found nothing yet to compare!

It is really, really, really tough to find good Chinese food out there. I've lived all over the U.S and have only truly enjoyed one Chinese restaurant in all the places I've ever lived. I have to say that China Moon is probably the second best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. The sizzling rice soup was wonderful and the mongolian beef was very tasty! The sesame shrimp and orange chicken were good. However, the sauces were a little sweet which made it hard to continue to eat it after awhile, but they were certainly good enough for me to order again someday! I think the only criticism I have is that the portions are not very big. I'm not into wasting food or anything but it would've been nice to have some more leftovers to enjoy at home the next day. But, that is not a deal breaker for me. We will be visiting China Moon again!

Went here on a Thursday night and was seated right away. Loved the variety in the menu, but since it was our first time we elected to order the family dinner. It came with several starters, wor wonton soup, and two entres. The food was amazing - although it took awhile to get our main courses after the starters. The wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. I will be going to back for sure!

This place is Magic! But unfortunately it's the 5 year old nephew doing card tricks sort of magic rather than say "Penn and Teller" sort of magic. This is not true Chinese food, but rather "Bland Chinese food for round eyed folk who don't know any better, and don't want to expand their horizons". The ambience is great, and the management and waitstaff were fantastic. Unfortunately that's not why I go to restaurants. I go to eat, and I like to eat good food. Unfortunately the food at China Moon is nothing remotely approaching "Good". We ordered a number of dishes for a holiday party, and I have to say that it was the most bland and flavorless Chinese food that I've had in recent memory. The Kung Pao chicken had absolutely no heat to it (even though there were chiles in the dish). How is this even possible? The Mongolian beef was more "relatively flavorless mongoloan green onions with some beef tossed in". The egg rolls and spring rolls tasted like your standard pre-made defrost and cook from the frozen section in the supermarket appetizers (not really appetizing at all). On the plus side, the jade chicken was decent. The chicken was nicely soft, and the spinach was done perfectly. But that is a relatively bland dish by design... My wife reports that the two flavor shrimp was good as well. Overall I give China Moon 3 out of 5. Breaking that down, it's 5 out of 5 for the staff, who were very friendly and welcoming, 4 out of 5 for the ambience/actual restaurant, but only 2 out of 5 for the food. For the price, I expect considerably better flavor and heat on dishes that require it. China moon is a great place to take someone who is frightened of the "exotic". There certainly won't be any surprises, and the bland food won't impress anyone, but is not likely to frighten anyone away either. If you've ever eaten "real" Chinese food, you won't be impressed (or amused). Eating here is like kissing your cousin. There's no heat or "zing", and nobody should be proud of it.

Being from the Boston/NY part of the world, it was difficult to find a comparable Chinese restaurant around here that would be as good as what we are used to, but China Moon comes close. The roasted duck is crispy on the outside, nicely seasoned, and delicious. We've tried many things on the menu, and if they have something special, we usually try that, too. If you want more heat, ask for the pepper oil to spice up your dish to your taste. Soups are yummy, lettuce wraps are crunchy and tasty, and the dumplings are yummy little bites. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. They serve only wine and beer, and it's a respectable list to choose from. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful evening. The best calamari we have had in a long time. So fresh and the wasabi dip was yum yum. Ditto for the scallop beef and spinach. While it might be true when a past reviewer said that it is "Americanized" Chinese food; it is good food freshly prepared and delicious. Also, the owners Jackson and Irene make you feel like honored guests. Highly recommended.

We were so excited to try this restaurant after reading all the good reviews. I called the day before and made a reservation for 4 people. The woman who took my call asked for my name and phone number and told me that I had a reservation for 8:00pm. The next night (Christmas eve), we arrived 5 minutes early and were told that we didn't have a reservation and would have to wait 30 minutes. There was a big crowd waiting and we were so frustrated that we left. We went to Sun Dried Tomato Cafe in San Juan and had a wonderful stress-free dinner. We won't go back to China Moon.

This place was packed on a Wednesday night! As soon as the food came to the table we realized why. Food was awesome and so was the service. There is no other place in South County to get Chinese food this good!!!

  • Kraven R.

We've been eating here for probably a dozen years or more, very regularly. The food is consistently great and the menu has was most Chinese food lovers could want. I know there is the issue of "authentic" versus "Americanized" and I'd say this is probably more on the Americanized side...food prepared more for local tastes versus say a Sam Woo's. That being said, it's great stuff! Occasionally we'll eat at another Chinese restaurant only to appreciate the quality of the food here. The owners are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet and the staff are also excellent and friendly (as well as consistent, turnover is very low). If you are looking for a great Chinese restaurant, this one is highly recommended!

This is my absolute favorite Chinese Restaurant in Orange County. Been eating here since I was a kid. Love the Wontons, Sizzling Rice Soup, Beef with Spinach, Sesame Shrimp, everything! A must-eat whenever I'm in Laguna Niguel.

The best Chinese food I've had by far!!!!! To start, this is a family owned business so the service is as good as it gets. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like eating there. If you are lucky enough to be there when they cook the hand made duck dumplings, get some. I highly recommend their special house noodle soup (healthy and delicious), mooshoo chicken, 3 flavor shrimp, won-ton soup, beef & scallops, dan-dan noodles & 3 flavor fried rice as well as many others. No grease, no MSG and all perfectly fresh.

I have been dining here for close to 15 years, The Food is great, Service is outstanding, Jackson is most attentive, I had about a two year hiatus and when I came back, he not only remembered me, but also what I liked to order. I do miss the Mongolian BBQ they opened next door, better than most I have been to. I'll let you in on a secret, Ask for the Specials!

Thanks to Yelp, I finally found a decent Chinese restaurant in my area. The food was really good, service was friendly and efficient, decor was nice. My only complaint is that they could have added some more vegetables to some of the dishes. For instance, the aromatic shrimp (which were very good) came with a very small amount of broccoli. Perhaps they have found that many people don't eat the vegetables, but I like them. Sesame Chicken was another great dish - one that I haven't tasted at other Chinese restaurants. I will definitely go back and try out some more dishes.

  • Sean S.

I've been to this place several times over the past 10 years. I don't think I'll return though. My favorite dish there was something called aromatic shrimp. Maybe it was just an off night, but the shrimp were smaller, tougher, and not nearly as tasty as they have been in the past. Also, I ordered Peking Duck and was disappointed that there was a lot of fat in the "burrito" type of thing that the duck is served in. I actually was nauseated by it! Finally, it was pretty expensive. There are a few very good Thai restaurants around that are about 30% cheaper!

    (2)
  • Devon B.

I had been craving Peking Duck for a week. I read the reviews for China Moon and thought I'd give it a try. It is a bit expensive for the amount of duck that you get, but it was delicious and between the two of us, we were quite full. The skin was crispy and the meat succulent. It comes with julienned cucumbers and scallions, as well as hoisin sauce and pancakes. I was hoping they would be the fluffy steamed variety, but they were actually more like crepes. I really enjoyed the meal and it definitely satisfied my craving. We ordered it for take-out and I may do so again or even dine-in next time.

My favorite Chinese food in South OC. Food is very fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is not bad either- clean and modern and prices are fair. Favorites are the Wor Wonton Soup, and the Jade Chicken. Popular place though and can be very busy on the weekends.

We are absolutely happy with the food over there. This is the best Chinese restaurant we can find in South oc. This place is absolutely an American Chinese restaurant not those you can find in Rowland Heights. I've tried both more popular American - Chinese entrees and custom authentic ones. The more popular ones turn out to be yummier than the one I requested. I guess the trick is to go to the cashier and ask them for the special on the wall written in Chinese. My favorite is the Chinese meat ball and salt and pepper calamari.

Love China Moon. The service is great. The food is always fresh. We're from NY, and this Chinese food taste like Chinese food from back east. They even have NY egg rolls! We don't go to any other Chinese restaurant.

I found China Moon by accident ---it's really hidden away on a side street that's around the corner from the courthouse. There aren't many good Chinese restaurants in South Orange County ---this is the only one I've found so far. For the most part, the food has been very good and consistent. Try the MaLa Chicken or the Pan Fried Noodles. I didn't care for the Kung Pao chicken.

  • OC F.

Delicious upscale Chinese food. This is not your average hole-in-the-wall Chinese food joint. This a great place, with a classy atmosphere, a good wine list, and great Chinese food. This place is not cheap, but the quality is reflected in the price of the food. This is probably the best Chinese food in all of South Orange County. Staff is friendly and the service is attentive.

  • Miki N.

I give China Moon 4 stars because I've only been there twice for lunch and both times I have ordered the same thing. Whenever I got to a new Chinese restaurant, I always order Chicken with Broccoli in white sauce. I figure that it must be the most basic food they can prepare and if that comes out tasty, then I'm willing to return for other dishes. ;) Well...China Moon passed my test so I shall return. Although it seems a few $ more than what you would pay for similar lunch dish/portion in other cities, in the high rent LN, I guess that can't be helped.

FANTASTIC! After reading another yelp members review of China Moon, hubby and I decided to try it and we are SO glad we did, it's excellent. The owners are so nice, and they never ever get the takeout order wrong (this is a big thing to us given we do a lot of take out and after living in the bay area where they NEVER get your take out order right ANYWHERE, we are in heaven)! Mango Chicken is awesome, so is Sauteed Shrimp & we LOVE the Pork fried rice, Pan fried noodles are not so good, that is the only dish I wouldn't recommend. Excellent quality, very fresh, NY/east coast style chinese, love it!

The owners of this restaurant used to own 3 separate restaurants in south Orange County. China Moon's two sisters, Mandarin Place (which used to be near the Irvine Auto Mall), and China Sea (which used to be on Niguel and Camino Del Avion), both closed sometime when I was away for college. I grew up in Orange County; I lived in Laguna Niguel from the ages of 3-18. I remember, when my family first moved to our house in Laguna Niguel, there was nothing in our immediate area. Somehow, we found out about their oldest restaurant, Mandarin Place. We went there all the time. Perhaps the fact that I remember being 6 years old and excitedly awaiting a steaming hot plate of orange chicken makes me biased, but I still come back to China Moon to get my favorite dishes from childhood. My family moved to Temecula while I was in college, and after they moved, when driving home for the weekend from college up in the Bay Area, I would go over 100 miles out of the way just to pick up some sizzling rice soup and an order of orange chicken. Now that I live in LA, I still make regular pilgrimages. The staff there even knows me and my very peculiar order (I've got a sizzling rice soup top secret methodology). The orange chicken isn't like it is at a lot of Chinese restaurants in this part of Orange County (Irvine and more northern cities of the OC are in their own league). It doesn't have that gross breaded, too-sweet coating on the chicken. It's not swimming in sauce. It's not too salty, not too sweet, and the outside of each piece of chicken has a nice crunch to it. I've got a huge soft spot for this place. Oh, childhood memories!

The best Mandarin-style Chinese restaurant in south OC. Literally, a hidden treasure in an obscure strip mall. Ironically, next to a "weight management" clinic.

This is my favorite Chinese food establishment. If any of our out of town (or even in town) friends want Chinese food we insist we take them to China Moon and every one of them, including my wife's side of the family (parents, aunts, uncles, grandmother and cousins) who is all Mandarin, has loved it. Favorite dish by far is the Kung Pao Chicken, plenty of vegetables, 60/40 in favor of chicken, unlike other restaurants which seem to have an 80/20 ratio... comes with lots of broccoli stock as well. Other favorite is the two-flavor shrimp, a combination of aromatic & sesame shrimp, it's a chef's specialty. On the lighter side, you can order steamed chicken & broccoli with a brown sauce (prefer to get it on the side when ordering to go), which isn't found on the menu but it's very delicious. Our favorite appetizer is the calamari with 2 different sauces, one a little spicy and the other is sweet. Lastly, the steamed fish with ginger sauce, served on the hot plate, is mouth watering. We can only order 3 of those dishes, as the portions are a fair size... which is somewhat unfortunate because we always want to order all 4 of them each time we go. The service is great, we've made friends with several of the waiters and the owner's (the Chen's) come around to our table and talk with us for a bit each time we're there. We eat here about once every 4 weeks and each time never disappoints. We'll see you there!

From the moment we walked in, we had nothing but excellent customer service. Even though we ordered to go, we were treated as if we were dining in. This place truly has class. We asked for a couple glasses of water while we waited outside. We were brought our water out front. Who does that? The inside is beautifully decorated, loved the mural on the ceiling. We were offered help by two different people. We felt very well taken care of, especially since it was at 9:30 at night. We didn't feel like a burden or rushed to make our dinner choices. Ordered Three Flavor Soup, NY Egg Rolls, Orange Chicken with Brown Rice (glad we had the option), and Combo Taiwanese Rice Noodles. DELICIOUS!!! I'm new to the area and came here at the recommendation of friends who love this place. Oh, and they double checked our to-go order a second time before handing it off to us outside. WONDERFUL!!!

Solid chinese food tucked away in a small suburban south OC strip mall. Quiet and plenty of parking. Another hidden gem in south OC. Atmosphere. Very upscale for a chinese restaurant. Very clean, nice music, and not the typical chinese decor. Service. Very friendly and accomodating. Food. Peking duck could be better but everything else is great. Cannot go wrong with their recommendations or anything else on the menu. Their steamed fish is especially good because it comes with only the filleted pieces, no bones or skin to deal with.

The best Chinese restaurant in the area. Service is slow but it is because everything is made on the spot. Ok not the soup or rice or some appetizers, but the main food. Won Ton Soup very good. Meals delicious. However I found that take home wasn't that good as on the food, except the soup. The ginger beef was solid but the meat was gushy - strange you bet! Did I get ill? Probably but I was sick anyway. So eat at the place and do not take out.

Update to update: manager finally called and assured me that they would do something nice for us next time we came in. Update to last review. My 90 yo Aunt drove to China Moon for the lunch special and at 210 pm was told that it ended at 2 pm when clearly all the menus say 230. I find these appalling. I have called to talk to the manager and left several messages. No call back. It seems they don't care. Food is good. Customer service sucks. Vs ad because I liked this place. Guess I'll be going to the Golden Dragon from now on Did take out here and had the chow mein and orange chicken. It was great and really enjoyed the flavors. Quite tasty. It is a bit pricey. I paid $24 which I thought was $8 more than other places around. I do recommend based and the taste of the two dishes. I am coming to try the luncheon special which seems to be a good deal starting at $8.95.

I went there because of the Yelp reviews. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the expectations. Don't get me wrong food is good / mediocre but not worth the hype. Most of their clientele are Caucasian senior citizens who probably like the their food under seasoned. I had the two flavor shrimps which was good but over priced in my view. Their house special beef was one of the worst meat I had in some time. Chewy and full of muscles. Frankly I won't go again. I am happy that they have clients who appreciate their food. Maybe I will eat there when I am in my seventies.

We hadn't been to China moon in over a year and sad to say was very disappointing. The orange chicken was inedible as well as the broccoli beef. The Lo me in noodles were good but overall very bland and flavorless. I remember it to be much nicer. The service was very good but the food did not sit well in my stomachs. I long for the old China moon.

Best sweet and sour chicken in So Cal!!! Whenever I have a hankering for Chinese food, I always come here. Typically my boyfriend and I go here for dinner but we went here for lunch today to try out their lunch menu and we weren't disappointed! We had exceptional service!! We never ran out of beverage- the workers there would even pour my hot tea for me! We ordered the sweet and sour chicken (my favorite), crab rabgoon, lunch special Mooshu pork and a side of chicken fried rice. The Mooshu pork came with a house-made soup and everything was absolutely delicious! The sweet and sour chicken was crispy and sweet and the rangoon were rich and decadent. You can tell the Mooshu pork is fresh because its piping hot when it comes to your table and is full of flavor! Our bill was $42 for the both of us, but we got to take boxes home with us. Lots of food! I can't say enough good things about this place... fantastic food, friendly staff, reasonably priced and generous helpings!

Until last night, China Moon was always a nice experience. Tasty food, pleasant atmosphere, cordial workers. Yesterday, our server was rude. We were nearing the end of our meal, and several times, they attempted to remove our plates. We weren't done. Our server actually picked up a wine glass to see if it was empty; it wasn't. Not an enjoyable nor relaxing experience. Unfortunately, will not return to China Moon.

I love this place. Every time I come here they do a great job. I usually want some kind of modification to my order and their always very nice about it, and it comes out tasting great. I get their mixed veggies but add spicy schezwan sauce instead of the healthy white sauce and eggplant for some extra vitamin b. The portion is huge and comes with rice, its definitely enough to share or split for 2. (Or great leftovers). I would recommend this place to anyone who appreciates great food and even better customer service!

Have driven past this little hole in the wall for some time but never stopped by. Big mistake on my part. Went by on a Sunday before 6 and was already filling up and now I now why. Definitely not a typical take out experience. The decor is only surpassed by the food. Everything was great and the pot stickers were amazing. The staff was attentive and excited that we were making our first visit.

Came here on a nice Sunday evening and enjoyed a great meal with another person. We ordered won ton chips, Won ton soup, sweet and sour chicken, beef lo mein, and shrimp with scallops cooked in a light white wine sauce. Yeah we wanted to sample it all. Nope we are not fat porkers like some people, we took most of it home. Anyways, the food was really good. It tasted fresh and not loaded with MSG or mystery dog meat. The batter on the sweet and sour chicken was very light. The service was awesome. They really treat you well if you strike up a conversation about anything. This is definitely a go to non-chained place in the area. The pricing is pretty good too. The menu is simple with basic chinese things...nothing over the top.

Short and sweet review... I think China Moon is overrated. There's no real competition in Laguna Niguel and Peking Garden in Dana Point is superior in every way. Better food, better menu and way better service. But if you're local and craving traditional Chinese then Moon may be all you've got. Honey walnut shrimp are good enough as are the green beans. Good luck.

One of the most popular Chinese restaurants in South Orange County, based on the crowds. I advise making reservations because it's packed on weekend nights...there was even a long line, stretching outside for carry-out orders. The food is good, service very friendly, and the cozy interior inviting and comfortable. I had the crab meat and cream cheese won tons -- 8 for $7.75 (which were mostly, if not totally cream cheese). Suggestion to the owners: please add a detectable amount of crab meat to that item. I also had the Hot & Sour Soup and the pickled cucumber salad (which was more oily than I expected). On the whole, everything was tasty and filling. What's most important, I didn't blow-up like the Goodyear Blimp or suffer a migraine after the meal, which is my personal bio-detector for sodium and/or MSG over-usage.

It's Easter ... time for another Chinese meal on a holiday. Yelp brought me here and chock up another big win for Yelp and Yelpers. The vibe and atmosphere is understated elegance, with a modern feel. We were greeted upon entry and China Moon was doing a brisk business (including lots of call-in take out orders, judging from the customers walking in and walking out with food to go). Service is very good, however we did have a problem on our 1st visit, but the manager "Vanessa" hanlded it quickly, graciously and quite clearly wanted to make us happy.. All in all, this place is great and has great tasting food with high standards and uses higher quality meat-chicken and other ingredients. It's a real pleasure to highly recommend China Moon for your dining, especially if you are looking for more authentic and don't want to go there with Asian Fusion.

Was hungry for authentic Chinese food and decided on China moon. The food was fresh, took a long while to be served , but I guess it was worth it. The highlight of the meal was the sizzling rice soup, served right in front of you it was full of fresh vegetables and shrimp and other items. My favorite part of the meal was the New York egg rolls, they are delicious ! I could of had those as the entree and been satisfied. We will be back for sure just for the egg rolls!

Rebecca, Shu and Andy were all extremely professional, welcoming, and had fun personalities!! The staff was very friendly and the place was extremely clean. The veggies they use are fresh and everything was cooked perfectly. This places ambiance was one of the best I've seen for a sit down Chinese food restaurant. I will definitely be coming back.

Best Chinese food I've ever had. I got the kung pao chicken, sweet and sour soup, la ma chicken, and beef and scallops. Everything was delicious. And HUGE portions. My boyfriend and I could have probably split one plate, and we eat a lot. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. Will definitely becoming back here. I don't even care that I have to drive from Irvine.

  • Raymond G.

In a nutshell: Overpriced, small portions of above average food with hit-or-miss service. Ambiance: The overall feel of the place is a mom-and-pop Chinese restaurant that is trying to replicate popular "high-end" (high-end in quotations because it just means cleaner, classier, and more customer service oriented) Chinese restaurant chains. Cleanliness: The dining area is very clean and the mood lighting is great. On our most recent visit, we were given a dirty plate. #1 rule of separating your business from the stereotypical Chinese restaurant: Ensure cleanliness of the dining area and plates/utensils. Service: The back of house staff (Bernardo and the younger chef that runs out food and offers to re-fill drinks) are awesome. They are both very positive people that truly care about making every patron's experience a great one. With that said, consider yourself lucky if you expect anything more than a depressing forced half-smile from any of the older female servers. Our server made an error on our ticket (which was already well over $100) and forgot to charge us for four iced teas. We were getting ready to go and she told us she wrote up another receipt to charge us the $2.50 for each iced tea she missed. Everyone makes mistakes and we didn't mind paying for what we ordered but to inconvenience a customer over your mistake is unacceptable. I would usually consider this one time to be fine, but this is the SECOND time China Moon has made an error on a ticket and inconvenienced us. This happened last year when we ordered hundreds of dollars of food for my son's baptism. They called us in the middle of the party and asked us to come back and pay for two dishes they didn't charge for. Way to be considerate of our time and appreciative of our business China Moon. Food: The food is still as flavorful and delicious as ever, but the portions have gotten smaller over the past two years. The Fish with Black Bean Sauce in particular used to come with 5-6 large pieces of fish that 3-4 people could share. This time around there were about 4 small pieces that would barely be enough for two people. Disappointing, but the dish is still amazing. My favorite dish, Sesame Shrimp with Walnuts, is perfectly executed every time. The crunchy, sweet, and savory elements make for a shrimp dish you'll order over and over again. The String Beans are coated with a delicious sauce and are always tender but never over-cooked. Every dish hits all the right notes and we have never been disappointed with the texture/flavor of the food. Price: No price difference from other comparable Chinese restaurants. For example, Sesame Shrimp w/ Candied Walnuts at China Moon: $17. Same dish at a comparable restaurant: $17. Bottom line: China Moon is a great place for flavorful Chinese food with a "high-end" Chinese chain-restaurant atmosphere but falls short in the areas of service and portion size consistency... and with no difference in price compared to other similar establishments, why not go somewhere with better service?

If you're looking for real Chinese food this is not the restaurant for you. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. But, its no wonder there were no Chinese customers at the time we visited as the food appears created to cater to Western tastes. Although beautifully presented, the food is the bland type of Chinese food I've run into in the Midwest. Having lived and traveled in Asia, this is not my cup of tea. But, I must admit, this is a very popular restaurant and, therefore, it successfully appeals to the average person's conception of what Chinese food should be. If that's you, enjoy.

One of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been too. Everything I've had I have absolutely loved. I really enjoy the three flavor noodle soup, rainbow shrimp, combo fried rice, orange chicken, moo shu pork and the veggie spring rolls. Service is outstanding as well.

I ordered hot and sour soup, crab wontons, spring rolls, orange chicken, chicken lo mein and sesame chicken to go for my family. The hot and sour soup has an added herb no Chinese restaurant puts in it -- maybe taragon? It was awful and disappointing, because this is typically my favorite soup. The wontons and spring rolls were lukewarm. None of the entrees had any liquid or sauce, pretty much dry. The orange chicken was tasty, but still needed some sauce to go with the rice. The sesame chicken didn't look like any I'd seen before and certainly didn't taste like it, either. The chicken lo mein was actually very tasty and had a bit of sauce clinging to the noodles, so they somewhat flavored the rice ... sort of. I only received one container of rice for all three entrees. Not enough! And they sent me home with ketchup. Not sweet/sour sauce ... but ketchup. I'm from Kansas and just moved here last year. So ... maybe this is a California thing? Don't know. Although, the staff here is very friendly, I would strongly recommend that you avoid this Chinese restaurant if you're looking for quality and quantity. On the other hand, I would highly recommend Kaleyard for quality Chinese food at a reasonable price. I just had this delivered a few days ago and it was delicious. China Moon ... well ... it was a huge disappointment.

Good chinese style food, but very americanized. Sure give away is the fried wonton skins with sweet and sour dipping sauce they offer as an appetizer. I took a pass on that. Also, is Mu Shu Pork an authentic chinese dish? I never ate that growing up. This is more in the style of PF Chang's, in my opinion. Even so, the food was good, the taste was very fresh, and the service was pretty good. We'll probably be back in the future, as I like to support small family owned businesses, but it ain't no R&G Lounge, that's for sure.

The best Chinese food in Laguna Niguel. Ask for Andy if your are dining in, he is the best server. All the food is made with the best ingredients. My kids love the fried rice and potstickers. These are must haves from China Moon. The family here makes everyone feel like family. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for quality Chinese food!!

Being that I am Asian (obviously), I am fairly picky with all asian food. Especially Chinese and Vietnames food. I grew up in Garden Grove and I will say that Garden Grove area probably has the best Chinese/Vietnamese food. When I moved to Laguna Hills almost 5 years ago I would often miss being so close to amazing asian restaurants. I found China Moon on yelp and decided to give it a try. I tend to avoid Chinese restaurants in the south orange county area because I just didnt have any good experience to share. My first time here was over 2 years ago, came here with by husband and we instantly were impressed with the staff and their outgoing personality. It seems they have tons of regulars here and know them by their first name...that is a very good sign. We ordered BBQ fried rice, a beef dish and hot and sour soup. Loved the hot and sour soup....not too many items to overwhelm the soup like some places...just perfect portion of the broth itself and good amount of the rest of the goodies that comes with it. The BBQ fried rice is delicious....very traditional and the BBQ meat was not super sweet like some places. We came back a couple more times and often would try the special of the day, always delicious. I cannot complain about anything because I've never had a bad experience. The staff here is amazing, funny, accommodating and on top of their game. I honestly do not expect much when it comes to service at any asian restaurants...but China Moon clearly proved me wrong. In my opinion, this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area (Not comparing it to the restaurants in Garden Grove area at all). I would hope they continue to keep up the good work with their fantastic food and amazing employees.

I'm not really sure how this place as 4 stars... I'm guessing in a city that lacks Asian food in general, a Chinese restaurant that is decent at best will be perceived as... well, worthy of 4 stars. Sometimes I get a craving to order Chinese take out and open a bottle of wine at home like they do in Sex and the City. Somehow they make it look so fabulous! Anyways, I decided to make a take out order from China Moon, but when I took a bite, it was very un-cool. For two of us, we order chow mein, mushoo pork, and shrimp with lobster sauce. The chow mein was really nothing special. I actually think I prefer Panda Express's chow mein. The mushoo pork was probably my favorite. It's the first time I've had the dish, and I'm a sucker for anything with hoisin sauce. The shrimp was my least favorite, and unfortunately also the most expensive ($13.95). Like I said, the food was decent, but the prices are steep for what you get. The total for our take out meal was $35. If you're willing to drive a little north, you'll find those Chinese restaurants in Asian neighborhoods like Irvine and Garden Grove really know what they're doing. Next time I want chinese take out at home, I think I'll just go to Pick Up Stix to save 20 bucks.

Americanized Chinese with overly sweet dishes and not enough bite to the spicy dishes. That said, it is a better than average neighborhood Chinese with not much competition for miles. Average prices and service.

It had been such a beautiful day. If only we hadn't had such a longing for Chinese food, it might have stayed that way. According the Yelp Reviews, this place is apparently the 'best Chinese restaurant in OC'... Um. No. Perhaps we had gone on a bad day, or we're just more accustomed to ACTUAL portions, but our party was not happy. Not happy at all. The service was pretty nice, the waiter smiled and was over all pretty pleasant, so props for that, but the service just simply couldn't make up for the food. We were a fairly large party, 8 people in total- we ordered the Mongolian beef, broccoli beef, shrimp fried rice, fish with black bean, some-noodle-thing-I-can't-remember-the-name-of, orange chicken, and two vegetable dishes. Normally, this amount of food would be more than enough, but here it was not so. The portions were minuscule, and the quality sub-par, it completely missed the mark of excellence I had expected. The Mongolian beef was something I had looked forward to trying, and in the description (via le menu), 'leeks' was a SUPPORTING ingredient. When they brought the food out, to our displeasure, we agreed that it should have been renamed, 'Mongolian Leeks'. I usually try not to leave overly negative reviews, but this time I couldn't just not. Sorely disappointed, we exited with heavy hearts and curses at the tip of our tongues. Needless to say, we won't be back. The next time I'm in the mood for some subpar Chinese, I'll stick with the Thai-owned takeout place by my house-At least I won't be let down this bad.

Food is average, and in my opinion far too salty. The one bonus of this place is that they have lunch specials on Saturdays. I really don't think that we will be back though, as there are better Chinese restaurants in the area and Irvine is also a short car ride away.

Great Chinese Restaurant Gone Bad You won't believe this but it happened tonight. I had been traveling all week, Chicago , then DC and then back to Chicago. Thursday night before I returned home to Orange County my wife asked me if she and my teenage daughter could pick me up from the airport and have dinner at one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, China Moon in Laguna Niguel. About 6 pm that night she made an 8:15 reservation to time it with my return and the drive time from the airport. At 930 that same night someone called from the restaurant to confirm our 8:15 pm reservation. Very professional. Well that is when it gets interesting. We arrived at the restaurant right at 8:15 and were told by the hostess, "we don't take 8:15 reservations, only 8:00 and 8:30" and that we would have to wait 15 mins. She smirked, turned around and went and sat at one of the empty tables in the restaurant. Well at first I thought she meant they had no tables available so I went to the restroom at the back of the restaurant. On my way I noticed no less than four tables available of various sizes. So, I went back to the hostess and asked her again about being seated, noting the several empty tables. She again told me that they don't take 8:15 reservations. I told her how we made the reservations the night before and someone had even called and confirmed. She looked at me again and said, "we don't take 815 reservations" smirked again, and walked away. After experiencing such rude and unreasonable behavior I wanted to leave but both my wife and daughter were hungry and wanted to stay. Promptly at 8:30 we were seated in one of the several empty tables in the restaurant. Well the food was the same great food and even saw two of our favorite servers but I will never be back. So if you want great Chinese food and are in Laguna Niguel you might want to try China Moon, just don't make the mistake of wanting to be seated at any time but the top or bottom of any hour.

I visited this restaurant last weekend for the first time. We had such a great experience! Not only was the food delicious, but the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The customer service with every single employee we interacted with was nothing short of excellent. The manager conversed with us and asked us if we've ever visited China Moon. We both said that it was our first time and he was so shocked and came back with a complimentary special dish for us! The chicken dish he prepared for us was delicious. It was such a nice gesture. The pan fried noodles we ordered was tasty but I wish the noodles were just a little more crispy. The portions are pretty reasonable for two people too! We were pretty full with just two dishes and could barely finish our food. Other than that, we had a fabulous time! We'll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be returning to China Moon. We just moved into the area and have been unpacking all day. Did a quick yell search to find Chinese takeout, and saw that China Moon was one of the top rated Chinese restaurants in Laguna Niguel. Service was great - took my phone order with ease, and said it'd be ready in 20 minutes. Ordered quite a few dishes: -Rainbow Shrimp -Chef's Special Crispy Beef -Cashew Nut Chicken -House Lo Mein -Chicken Fried Rice -Sauteed String Beans Our total came to $76.00+ The only items I would try again were the Sesame Shrimp and the fried rice. Everything else was mediocre, or perhaps I expected to be impressed since the prices were so high. Our family lives on leftovers, we always cook or order extra so that we can have leftovers for lunch the next day. No one was interested in leftovers. They went straight to the trash. Sorry, I really wanted to like this place, and I'm not a fan of leaving negative feedback (unless it's highly warranted!) - but this place just didn't do it for us. Will keep looking.

We have ordered from here multiple times now, always take out, and I give kudos to this place for consistently good food. So many places are hit and miss depending on who's cooking but no issue with that here. The guy who is always at the register for pickup is super friendly and quick to get orders out. I love the NY egg rolls and the potstickers and dumplings along with the beef broccoli and three ingredient taste. Looks like the owners read yelp reviews so I'd like to make a request- I'm from New York and can't find Cold Sesame Noodles anywhere here in CA- since you've mastered the egg rolls why not try these noodles? Ex-New Yorkers would be thrilled to have them!

Awesome food!! Not so awesome staff. First, this is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in Orange County. My wife and I come here often, usually for dinner before catching a movie at our favorite theatre, Cinepolis. The Mongolian beef is on point. The tofu soup dish is really good. And the cashew chicken is delist. Secondly, the staff is WAY too over-attentive. They fill our water every other minute, ask if we're still okay every five minutes, and basically seem to be in a rush to get everyone in and out ASAP. But still, the food is just way too damn good to let the high kid that overfills my glass of water prevent me from coming back.

Every dish that China Moon serves is the best I've ever tasted. I have been coming her for over 10 years and will continue. Hands down, the best Chinese food around. Had lunch there today and once again, was totally satisfied. Hot, delicious, quick and friendly service!

This is the BEST Chinese food around. Hands down! I've been coming here since 2002 when I used to work across the street. The restaurant is family owned and they are very nice and wonderful people!! Their fried rice and two flavor shrimp is my favorite. Hot and Sour soup is the best around (my boyfriend, who hates tofu, is obsessed with this stuff)! Also, their orange chicken, beef and broccoli, three taste choice, noodles and wonton soup are also amazing. Haven't had something here yet I don't like. What's better than a friendly family owned restaurant with great food?! Not much!! :)

I'm not trying to be insensitive but I could never trust restaurant ratings completely. I avoided this restaurant because I didn't think that I was able to trust the reviews. Chinese food in a predominantly white neighborhood. Like asking a Chinese person about Italian food. Thought that it would be like Pei Wei (very salty, Americanized Chinese food) but I was wrong. Food here tastes pretty close to home made and not salty. I was glad to be wrong and happy I found a great place to eat near home!

Great find on a weekend trip from LA! Off the beaten path (in the rear of a large strip type mall)- but plenty of parking at this popular restaurant. Quick seating. Friendly and responsive staff. Great food! We were really pleased. Lots of leftovers from generous portions!

I enjoyed the America style Chinese food. China moon always has consistent food and this is actually makes a great restaurant is consistency. Great food you will enjoy just about all the great food.

Having dinner here right now and its a 30 minute wait but since I've eaten lunch here on numerous occasions I know how good it will be. This is some of the best Chinese food in Orange County. I always get the Mongolian beef and an order of fried rice with egg drop soup. If you like Chinese this is your place.

Good food, great service from "Ginger," fair value... So, why the crazy 2 Star Rating? 'Just stay with me... 'So last night, we decided to try the 'Best Chinese Food" as so many have stated... After leaving Hawai'l & being transplanted to the SF Bay Area, I've had great Chinese food from both places. The Chinese food here is very good, but the best?... I'd have to politely disagree. ('And if you get your panties in a wad, then "Kiss my @ss!" (That's the "not-so-polite" version in that case.) I'm jus' kidding!... I'm still being polite. 'Arrived @ 9:10pm, the restaurant was relatively packed. (China Moon closes @ 10pm on Fridays, we had time.) Ginger, our waitress was great, friendly, and very helpful. Complimentary "Pupus" - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… After browsing the menu we finally decided on: * Tsingtao Beer: Good Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… * Potstickers (Appetizer - 8 Pieces): Very good; fresh; tasty; good value Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… * Pepper Steak: "Okay"; good portions Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… * Sczhewuan Eggplant (w/added Shredded Pork): Very good; not spicy; good portions Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… * Steamed Rice (White): Okay Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… Authentic Chili Oil: China Moon has the real deal, house-made chili oil! (This is a rare find, that I've only found @ authentic, Chinese restaurants.) Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… * Sizzling Rice Soup - Good; BBQ pork - good flavor Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/chin… Grand Total: $48 (+ tip) Now, for the 2 Star Rating: The service was great until about 10:05pm: (This portion of my review is addressed to the Chinese & Mexican guy who without asking, came in and packed up our dishes w/o acknowledging whether we were finished eating.) I understand that you're tired & want to go home but don't grab food away from a hungry Hawaiian. ('Good way to lose a limb.) 'Just because I reside in South OC, doesn't me I hail from behind the Orange Curtain. Now, ordinarily I'd address it right then & there BUT it was a long day, I was tired, "Ehhh... 'What'evers. (shrugs) These two guys, thinking they're being "slick," lets push these patrons out of the door, under a veil of plastic smiles, "making nice," & trying to make jokes... 'Just took this 4 Star review down to a solid 2 Stars due to the unprofessional & poor etiquette displayed. - "Xie xie" 'Consider this one time a "freebie..." 'Try that sh*t again, get ready to sit back and enjoy the show. (That'll be complimentary also - most people have to pay.) 'As I say in all my reviews, great food w/poor customer service will fail every time... 'Too bad, because up until that point, Ginger, did an awesome job! Thank you for your great service... 'Stellar. However, you can thank Tweedle "Lee" & Twiddle "Juan" for the extra credit in the final stretch of the evening. (I'm only kidding, that could be easily taken offense too. My apologies to the original "Tweedle Dee & Twiddle Dumb.") It had been a while since I had last tried China Moon & maybe for good reason... 'Looks like it's back to The Little Asian Cafe @ Dana Point: yelp.com/biz/the-little-… "Kung POW!" - Aloha! Food: 4 Ambiance: 4 Service: 1 Value: 3+

Been eating here for over 30 years and this was once one of the better restaurants in the area with authentic Cantonese dishes like Chow Fun, Mongolian beef and even fun stuff like their large wooden dragon Pu-Pu platter that made this a fun place. Now it's declined to being more like a traditional neighborhood Chinese restaurant without the exotic/fun nature it once had, replacing good food with fancy furniture and American elevator music instead of Chinese. My best example of this decline is Mongolian Beef, used to actually have beef in it, now it seems something my vegetarian daughter would enjoy. Just reminds me of the Wendy's commercials, "where's the beef". While we used to come once a week, we now come once a year, not because we like it, because we hope someday they will return to their roots and make this the great restaurant it once was.

This is my go-to spot for Chinese take out in Laguna Niguel. The ingredients are very fresh and everything on the menu is delicious. I am a big fan of the lettuce wraps! The interior is comfortable but I prefer to take food to go.

I go to China Moon at least twice a month! Friendly staff, nice ambiance and really healthy food; their sauces are a family tradition! The Wonton soup, the 2 Flavored Shrimp and the Mongolian Beef are my favorite choices. Oops; the peppercorn chicken is also awesome! Don't forget the delicious jasmine tea and please, don't go on Tuesdays since they are closed.

Updating my 4 star to a 5 star for the simple fact that this establishment responded and addressed my review! To me, that speaks volumes and reading a few bad reviews (which I think is completely crazy), they were still very gracious and kind with their replies. Excellent work China Moon! Now open a restaurant in San Diego! Haha. :-P

Our first visit to China Moon! After getting recommendations from friends we tried it tonight for our takeaway-ginger beef, pepper steak, three ingredient taste and vegetable fried rice and the NY style egg rolls-the mgmt also gave us a taste of a seafood entree since it was our first time-very nice! We drove up and food was ready on time and packed very well! We are now enjoying our meal at home and will order again-Thanks China Moon! I will recommend you to everyone at Aliso Niguel High School and AVMS!

I frequent China Moon often. The ambiance, the food, the customer service, and everything in between makes this a one of a kind restaurant. You are alway greeted with a warm smile no matter if it's the owner or one of the well trained staff. They take pride in their business & in their customers which is so rare these days. I won't go anywhere else for Chinese food.

Alas, in South OC, the choices for authentic Chinese cuisine are pretty limited. I would say that I'd expect more from a restaurant that boasts owners native to Taiwan and a staff of mostly Chinese-speaking individuals, but then I look again at the location and realize that they have to cater to their clientele. Adjust your expectations - this place is more akin to P.F. Chang's - and I think one would enjoy the experience of dining here much more. That said, we enjoyed the aromatic shrimp. The "chinese tacos" (aka: chicken lettuce wraps) were also tasty. The kung pao chicken was just average and a bit salty. Unfortunately the peking duck was sold out, but perhaps another day and time. They also charge for rice here, just fyi. I was surprised no rice came with the dishes. Serving sizes are also small. There were no leftovers to be found. Check came out to $70 for a 2 person meal. This is without any alcoholic tastiness. Puts this restaurant at a solid "average" 3 star rating.

Excellent Chinese food for South County, normally I have to travel to Irvine or Garden Grove. The Service is pretty good, but if you order right, the food is excellent. Highly recommend the Steamed Fish, Mongolian Beef, and whatever special Andy has for the Appetizer of the day. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is pretty decent for a strip mall.

Recently tried China Moon again after an absence of a few years. Now I remember why I stopped going. I can't say the food is bad, it is just too bland for my taste. I eat at a lot of Chinese places in Irvine that are more authentic. I think China Moon has tuned it's preparation to appeal to the taste of the Caucasian clientele of Laguna Niguel who may never actually venture past Crown Valley for Chinese food. It also is a bit pricey, with most dishes $12 to $15. On the plus side, the service is great, the atmosphere is upscale.

My wife had this place bookmarked for a while and the other day we finally had the opportunity to try China Moon. This place is very highly rated on Yelp, but I have experienced disappointment in the past when reality does not live up to the hype. Oh why do you taunt me so Yelp? We were given a friendly greeting upon entering and was immediately taken to a half booth table in the back of the restaurant. Our server brought menus and took our drink order, but her English wasn't very fluent and we had to repeat who wanted what before she was off to retrieve the drinks (This was a theme throughout the service). The menu is broken up into appetizers, soups and salads, rice and noodles, and entrees. The entrees are broken up into vegetarian, poultry, seafood, beef and pork, and Chef's favorites. When the server returned, we decided to start with the NY Eggrolls (Four thick crispy Eggrolls filled with Shredded Vegetables, BBQ Pork and Chicken). There was some more communication problems with varifying there were no mushrooms in the eggrolls (my wife is highly allergic), which was getting a little annoying. Once our server put in the appetizer order, she returned for our entrees. My wife chose the Chef's Special Beef (Crispy Fried Beef sautéed with Chopped Onions and Bell Peppers) and I opted for the BBQ Pork with Snow Peas (BBQ Pork, Snow Peas and Water Chestnuts) scans the Water Chestnuts. We also decided to split an order of the Pan Fried Noodles (Crispy outside, soft on the inside Noodles tossed with Vegetables) with Chicken. A short time later our NY Eggrolls were delivered yelp.com/user_local_phot… and we each took a bite. Unfortunately, there was something missing, but I took an extra bite to be sure and my wife started digging with her fork. However, our further investigation proved our original assertion ... there was no meat in the Eggrolls. We called our server over and again had some problems telling her what the problem was, but eventually she told the manager Vanessa. Vanessa came over and apologized for the mistake (a new person making the eggrolls ... they are made fresh) and thanked me for pointing out the mistake. When was the last time a manager thanked you for pointing out an error, apologized for it yes, but thanks ... I can't remember. She also went out to talk to my wife who was having a smoke break and my better half took the moment to explain the communication problems we were having with our server. Vanessa decided to switch servers for the rest of the service and there were no more problems. She also offered to re-fire the Eggrolls, but we decided to try them another time. Rohlinism: Excellent customer service is provided when the customer points out a problem, but doesn't point out the solution to fixing it. Vanessa did give us a bowl of fried wonton for free (normally $1) and they were good. A few minutes later our entrees came out and my better half's Chef's Special Beef was excellent. The texture of the beef had a nice crunch, but the beef was still tender. The flavor was amazingly sweet considering Onions and Bell Peppers. The BBQ Pork with Snow Peas had a really good flavor, was thinly sliced and the pork wasn't fatty. I am usually disappointed with pork choices at Chinese restaurants, but this was a very good fare. The Snow Peas were not overcooked and went well with the pork. The Pan Fried Noodles were executed well, but it didn't really agree with either of our palates. There was nothing wrong with this dish, for us it just wasn't something we would order again. As a final apology, Vanessa removed 20 percent from our bill, ensuring a return visit to try the Peking Duck and give the NY Eggrolls another try. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to be served by a restaurant who cares about it customers.

Consistently great Chinese food since I found this little Chinese gem. I highly recommend the wonton soup. The chef's special beef and sesame shrimp are also good. If you like good Chinese food, China Moon is the place to eat!!

Vegetarian dishes I will continue to review this restaurant as I try new dishes. We tried it tonight for the first time and were impressed with the friendly service from the two brothers up front. Since my mother prefers vegetarian dishes, we ordered the fried tofu with vegetable and garlic sauce. The portion was an average size and visually 'looked' delicious, but unfortunately did not have a very good flavor. The tofu pieces were cut too small and they were not crunchy. The flavor of the tofu was a bit sour as well. The Lo Mein noodles with vegetables is not worth ordering because it's all noodle with only 'slivers' of grated carrots and a few pieces of cut up cabbage that included several pieces of the base of the cabbage, making it quite tough to chew. The flavor was uneventful and I cannot justify paying $10.00 for a container of noodles. I make better Lo Mein at home. I will try this place again because all of the other reviews are so great. All I can say is good thing we had a nice bottle of wine at home! In NYC where I have lived for the past several years, they make killer Chinese food. I do not expect the same caliber here in O.C. where everything is on the CA side. (lighter) I am 100% positive the locals in Laguna Niguel will be upset with me, but I am not holding the same standards of NYC Chinatown, but rather evaluating on pure taste and quality of ingredients and cooking style. I will try them at least two more times and write another review. I'll try some seafood or chicken dish next time. Cheers!

Recently I enlisted China moon to cater our 25 years anniversary, what a wonderful job they did for us from start to finish. Love the food that was provided just the way we like it. We had egg noodles, string beans, dumpling, lobsters, the house special fried rice, and my wife favorite jade chicken. Their staff was very professional and work extremely hard to make sure none of our 27 guesses drink were filled and no empty plate sit on the table very long. They even clean the dishes and put them in the dish washer for us. By the end of the evening there were not much to clean. Love China Moon for excellent services and the awesome food!!!

I am always looking for that perfect Chinese spot. In regards to steam table fast-food Chinese i have my favorite already, but i haven't found my sit down Chinese spot until my visit to China Moon! The service here is incredible. They leave a pitcher of water at your table (Super smart, as I drink a ton of water), but the best part is, they don't even make you poor it yourself, they come by often and refill your glass. It's the same way with other beverages. The decor is neat and gives the restaurant a nice authentic feel. They also provide complimentary crunchy noodles with a sweet and sour/hot Chinese mustard sauce. Lets get to the food: Potstickers- You receive 8 in one order. They are cooked perfectly and have excellent flavor. Crispy exterior and soft interior. They also offer a delicious dipping sauce. Probably the best I've tastedHighly recommended! Sizzling Rice Soup- Chicken broth with chicken, shrimp, BBQ pork and vegetables served with crispy rice. This is my new favorite soup. I know it's so simple, but seriously this soup is amazing. Highly recommended! Taiwanese Rice Noodles with Chicken- Thin rice noodles stir-fried with bean sprouts, carrots and cabbage. The noodles are super thin, but delicious. This was a good dish. I would recommend it. Kung Pao Chicken- The kung pao was very good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't the best i've ever had, which lead me into giving a 4 star rating and not a 5. It had everything you would expect in a traditional kung pao, the flavor just was missing a tad. I would definitely recommend this dish however. We really loved our time at China Moon and can't wait to return! ***** (5 Stars)- Amazing, zero flaws, a must go! (Not given often) **** (4 Stars)- Memorable, strongly feel you should visit *** (3 Stars)- Above average, worth a visit ** (2 Stars)- Average, some pro's and some con's * (1 Star)- Opinion is do not go, below average If you like this review, please visit my Facebook page and LIKE my review. Yelped this looking for a god Asian food. Ordered moo shu pork, dry, two dry pancakes, no sauce at all on filling which was dry as well. dry eggs, hard noodles nd non-existent pork. Was not even offered tea. The side rice, steamed, was cold and hard. Maybe they no longer want lunch crowd. My companion was a little more fortunate. His shrimp we overcooked and wasn't subject to the cold rice. Where these other reviews came from may stem from the dinner crowd where food and service may be better, ours was not. It's back to Peking Dragon in Dana Point where the food and service excel!

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant. The receptionist is always very friendly and personable. We always order take out and the food is always ready and hot when we arrive. Love their lo mein noodles and mapo tofu. Orange chicken and fried rice is excellent too. Actually, we haven't had anything we didn't like. Highly recommend.

Picked up $70.00 worth of take out last night and was extremely disappointed. We had not eaten here in a couple of years. Boy, have they gone down hill. The Hot and Sour soup tasted like cornstarch and water with hot pepper flakes sprinkled in. The shrimp with lobster sauce was lacking shrimp and tasted watered down. We won't be going back here. I sure wish south county had a good spot for Chinese food.

This place is a perfect example of how to manipulate the communication especially when taking orders over the phone. They have two types of prices; lunch and dinner, but we wanted to get food to go during the lunch hour, but for whatever reason, they decided to charge us for the dinner pricing. My sister did the phone ordering and she made it specifically clear that we wanted to get the lunch prices, but when we came in to pick up the food....their response "ohh sowwee, we thought you wanted dinnah" and "don't wohwee, dinnah betta, promise, long time" Well...I added the long time part, but the rest is true. Well, we didn't order dinner and since we were in no position to wait for the corrections, we just paid for the dinner prices, despite the fact we made it clear to them we ordered lunch instead. And guess what...we got the lunch portion too....WHAT THE F*CK OVER...I know the difference since I had dinner here one time and the portions was much bigger during that visit. Not so much this time. And since I liked that previous visit, that's why I came back here to take the family. So yah, we got the lunch portion at dinner pricing so we paid about 33% more. I honestly liked this place on my first visit based on the food, service and how management was very engaged with the day to day operations. Not so much anymore, I figured management took the day off today; that or they have become complacent with their 4.5 star average. My recommendation: Don't come here. Lesson Learned: have them repeat back the order and make sure they give you the the total amount before you get there and make sure it makes sense.

The food here is great compared to lots of other places. Loved the chinese kimchi and the fried rice was excellent. So much flavor! But the best part of my visit was the service.....fantastic, especially on a busy saturday night! No waiting for refills and just about every staff member asked us how we were doing. Oh and the fact that it does not look like a typical chinese restaurant makes it so much more interesting.

I came here for lunch last week. The presentation of the place was awesome. Most Chinese restaurants underestimate the public presentation aspect of their business so I'm glad that there was a good focus on that. The lighting ambiance, the graphic picture frame, along with the restaurant notables in the entrance were a great feel. I also thoroughly enjoyed the jazz music which also added to the unique feel. I was seated promptly and ordered my food: hunan lamb and a wonton soup to kick it off. The soup was good - simple and not overbearing like some American-esque restaurants that try to imitate Chinese food. The hunan lamb was also good with the right amount of vegetables and meat with a scoop of rice on the side. I am not a big ricer eater, but its there for those who need to get filled up or like to mix everything up and then eat. Prices were very reasonable - especially when you consider that you are not at a noisy Chinese restaurant with a B or C health rating. You were actually at a nicer sit-down restaurant that actually serves authentic Chinese food with comparable prices. Overall, I was satisfied with: 1. the service - in that it was not overbearing and felt like you were being rushed with your meal and consistent enough to know that they remembered your table. 2. the food - in its authentic taste. 3. with the presentation: ability to have a great seating ambiance and room decoration. I highly recommend it!

I came here for the first time last night. The Chinese food is delicious. If solely reviewing the food alone it would surely earn five stars; however, being a comprehensive review, I must note that it took well over 30 minutes to receive our entrees. We will definitely be coming back again, and I hope to be able to change this review to five stars in the future. It's hard to find good Chinese in South OC!

This place is NOT a 3, 4, or 5 star restaurant! Maybe a 2 for great service and presentation. Sad to see this is reviewed as one of the best places for Chinese food in the O.C. Everything else in the area must be awful. Might as well order take out. Save your $$. Microwaved food. Bland. Lovely service and salad was pretty bomb. Thats pretty much it. Think twice if you're looking to find good Chinese food.

We have eaten at the restaurant once and have takeout quite regular. Service when eating in was very good. Service for takeout varies, sometimes quick, last time was slow as the kitchen must have been backed up and must have been 45+ minutes from ordering. Food though is always great, our favorites include Szechwan Eggplant Peking Duck Chicken lo mein Only food we had that wasn't so great was the curry. Not the cheapest place around but worth paying a bit extra for consistent good quality food. And yes certainly Americanized Chinese food but that's my preference rather than eating chickens feet and other crazy specialties when I've been in China.

  • Yinny C.

The food was ok. I don't like the boss because he is too freaking pushy. I don't really care about the two flavor shrimp because they are too sweet. But, since this is the boss's so called masterpiece, he always push his customers to order this dish. Also, if you order cheap dishes like fried rice or noodle, he will hate you very much. Then, the servers would get yelled at for not trying harder to sell the expensive dishes. I don't like this place, sorry!

Having grown up in Los Angeles with a Chinese restaurant on the corner as our childhood treat. As adults our favorite place became Madame Wu's restaurant in Santa Monica. Elegant, always delicious and wonderful hospitality. We moved to the Valley and found the House of Kwong, another family owned restaurant and we were happy. Not so happy when the family retired! Found Bamboo in Sherman Oaks, again we were happy. Down here in the OC we couldn't find 'our' place! We knew it was here somewhere. Finally, we were referred to China Moon in Laguna Niquel. Family owned, hospitable people and great food! Happy again! Knew there had to be a good place here and now we've found it. Cannot wait to go again. Make reservations as people know this place is good. We are a simple people who just need great Chinese food and we are in heaven!

10 stars for the customer service.... So my boo and I wanted something chill for a sunday evening dinner and I was craving chinese. Again being new to the area, I most definitely need to yelp spots! So come in and there's a wait, I wonder if they take RSVP's. I mean place was packed. Im happy for them, they deserve it. So we wait a little. We sit down and scale the menu and I want half the menu LOL. But that's how I usually am when I go to chinese. So we started with the N.Y. eggrolls, I didn't get what made them NY but ok, still tasted great and they're huge! We ordered shrimp fried rice, dan dan type noodles and the beef scallop entree. Everything came out piping hot! Food was great, no complaints. Made killer leftovers. Our server was awesome and he had lots of jokes. If im craving chinese food in the area, im so there!

This is the only place I go to for Chinese food. The food is very good there. They use fresh ingredients and the food is lighter than most Chinese places. The people there are very nice. We take the grand kids there but I also go for lunch with a friend or by myself.

TAKE OUT: I ordered: corn soup egg rolls potstickers Mala chicken cashew chicken pork noodles Total: $65 So i go to pick it up and I asked for more of the sweet sauce and she didn't want to give me more. She then told me here is your rice and I pay and walk out then come back to ask for more rice because it didn't seem enough. The lady tells me if I want more I have to pay $1.00+ She had such attitude about her, I was so upset because I have been going here for years. To top it off, the food was very salty and mediocre. The older Asian lady needs to have an attitude change because she is turning off customers.

The best Orange Chicken I have ever had. The food is terrific. The service is slow, but well worth it. I have always been treated well by the staff. We usually order ahead and because the food is cooked to serve the pick up time could be 20-30 minutes. But the portions are appropriately sized and for 3 of us it we usually get two days of food. I highly recommend!!!

Delicious wok'd up food that isn't heavy or greasy. This place is amazing! My family ordered the shrimp with vegetables, which is probably something like shrimp with lobster sauce at other places. It was not a starchy, thick mess like at other restaurants, but instead was a light and flavorful dish. We also ordered Hunan chicken, which also followed the same light overall feel. The chicken was not breaded and the sauce was not heavy. However, it was still very flavorful. The service is good, no complaints. My larger extended family typically meets up in Westminster to eat Chinese food, but I'll definitely get them to try China Moon next time.

This place just makes me smile! Down in Laguna Niguel, food options are somewhat limited. If you are in the mood for Chinese this is the place to go. The portions are not crazy large but they aren't skimpy either. My only gripe is that they could stand to be a bit cheaper, but good food is worth it. One thing that I really like about this place is their service. Whenever I call, there is one lady who always remembers me and when we go to pick up the food everyone is super friendly. If we have a large order (as we often do) they always help us out to the car. Items we have tried... Salt n' Pepper Calamari Could go either way on this one, it is good but not amazing. Chinese Tacos Good flavor and refreshing. Spring Rolls Yummy! Pot Stickers I know every place has pot stickers but for some reason these are my favorite. J's Spareribs This is so-so, not enough meat for my taste. Wonton Soup I would pass on this one. I have just had too many Wonton soups and this one just isn't great. Chicken Corn Soup Favorite! Everyone that has tried it has totally loved it! Chinese Chicken Salad Nothing special. Not worth trying, Combo Fried Rice Pan Fried Noodles Sauteed String Beans Really fantastic flavor! A must have every time we order. Szechwan Eggplant Again, loved by everyone who tries it. Ma Po Tofu Great for people who love spicy food! Rainbow Shrimp My personal favorite! SOOOOOOO good! We usually order 2 or 3 orders because people snatch them up! Pepper Steak I could take it or leave it. Peking Duck This is another must have item! If you want it you have to order early because by middle/end of the night they are all sold out. Mongolian Beef It is good but again not great. Off Menu: Cucumber Salad So tasty! Refreshing and crunchy cumber in a great salad. Okay... I know the list is long, but there is so much to try! We never eat in and always order out, but we have never had a bad experience here!

This place needs a better service strategy. I realize that I came on a Friday night with my wife without reservation and I also realize that this place is in Orange County where the whole town eats out every night of the week, but waiting 45 minutes to get in this joint is too long. If these guys are so popular, they should have expanded years ago. Clearly, China Moon is not living up to its business potential. After we were sat, we waited still again for about half an hour after we ordered our food. All the servers were working very hard, so it was perplexing analyzing who wasn't pulling their weight. We assumed it was the kitchen, but when our noodles came out, they had clearly been under a heat lamp for quite a while. So, I'm not sure. The food was good, so I have to give up some stars, but I can't imagine I will eat here again. My suggestion: order take-out and pick it up late.

The best Chinese in Orange County hands down. I've been trying to find a decent Chinese place since I moved out here from the east coast two years ago and NOTHING has come close to this place. AMAZING food and AMAZING service. Not only are the staff always on the ball making sure your drinks are filled, but they're incredibly friendly and personable and make the experience that much better. Absolutely the best Chinese place around.

We go here often for lunch. 5* for service, 4* for food, and 2* for the egg roll -- it's sad. Our favorites are the hunan lamb, szechuuan pork, and mu shu pork -- all excellent. Lunch menu prices are great. Service is excellent and very nice setting.

I'm a fan of China Moon! I came here expecting a lot after seeing their 4 1/2 star rating on Yelp, and I wasn't disappointed. Being Chinese myself, I have definitely had my share of authentic Chinese food, both at home and at restaurants when I'm out with my family or grandparents (especially), and I can't say that I've really found too many Chinese restaurants that I would recommend to friends. I would recommend China Moon to friends. The only (sort of) downside is the location in Laguna Niguel is kind of random and away from where we usually hangout, so I don't think I or my friends will really be in the area often. The restaurant itself is located in the Town Center Complex and is pretty small, but it's a good kind of small (more intimate and cozy, not hole-in-the-wall status). It has a pretty modern atmosphere, it's not too "Chinese" by any means - it's more Chinese-American. In the same way, their food is pretty Chinese-American. The dishes aren't catering to only mainstream Chinese families. In fact, when we came on Saturday night, most of the customers eating there were American. They have a good selection of rice/noodle dishes, veggies, chicken and duck, shrimp and fish, and beef dishes. We tried the Sesame Shrimp, Jade Chicken, and Beef Fried Rice. We were all pretty happy with the food and how it tasted, and price-wise it was about $12-17 per dish (although the fried rice was only $6.95 which I thought was pretty cheap). Portion-wise, it's kind of a mixed bag. The shrimp was a pretty small portion, and the most expensive dish ($17), but we got a decent amount of chicken and fried rice. I really liked the restaurant not only for their food, but for the atmosphere as well. They have small, cushy booths and nice tables, and even though it's small on the inside, we didn't feel cramped at all. We came a little early for dinner, but if you come at peak times you'll probably have a little bit of wait. I wasn't too thrilled with the service, because our waitress seemed to be pushing us to leave a little faster, and she wasn't super friendly. But considering the horrible service you get at most Chinese restaurants, this was stellar in comparison. Our water was refilled pretty often and our leftovers were packaged for us, so that was a plus. Overall - great Chinese food, great environment, and definitely somewhere I'd recommend for anyone in the mood for Chinese food. Maybe a little on the pricey side, but split dishes family style and you'll be fine.

I'm sorry.. But I had 2 bad experiences the 2 times I've been here. I've lived in Laguna Niguel 16 yrs ... Ate here around 10 yrs ago and never went back but my wife wanted Chinese ... We looked at yelp i thought ... Hey maybe new owner/cooks .. Let's go... Bad move...Never again. I prefer Pei Wei in Laguna Niguel over China Moon.

First visit; reservations recommended. Had a short wait for dinner. Service is wonderful. Hot and sour soup is great. Orange chicken-special order for all white meat and extra spicy is probably some of the best orange chicken I have ever had - breaded just enough to give it a nice outer crunch and chicken was tender/juicy on inside. Sauce was not overly sweet. Will definitely be returning to try other menu options. I have added China Moon to our "visit frequently" list!

Seriously the best Chinese food ever! I have been eating here for over 20 years, back when they had their old location up Niguel rd, towards PCH. The rainbow shrimp is amazing, I have never had something here that wasn't truly delicious. It always tastes fresh and healthy. Not greasy at all. This place is Great to take out, just call your order in and it's ready very fast. And packed up waiting for you. After having dinner here the other night, I realized they menu has totally changed, its become MUCH more expensive and, everything is now separate.

This restaurant keeps popping up on my feed, it's annoying, and the highlighted statement is "The best Chinese food I've found in Orange County" NO. Clearly Yelpers here do NOT know what authentic Chinese food is supposed to taste like. This is now the second Chinese restaurant where I've been duped by Caucasian yelpers who think they know what Chinese food is (first being R&G Lounge in SF - 4.5 stars, 1k reviews for the most putrid and overpriced Chinese food I've ever eaten in my life). This place is clearly Americanized Chinese food, clear because every table that had guests who were Caucasian. Real Chinese people wouldn't go here, and neither will I ever again. I will agree with everything Claire N. said in her review - I just wouldn't give 5 stars for it! My beefs: Food is extremely salty They charge $0.25 for a scoop of rice They charge $0.75 for tea They charge $9 for a panda-express style and portioned dish My likes: Atmosphere and service were great, I'll give you that, and I liked how the waitresses, while Chinese, spoke tolerable English. It was clear to them though that we were misplaced in their restaurant, they even asked us how we found them and why we were there. But seriously, all these people raving about food, "quality" "price" and "quantity"? You all are chumps! There are so many better options right down the street in Irvine and while you won't get the service or cleanliness you expect from these white-washed places, the food you'll get is what REAL Chinese people eat. But that's my mistake, for trusting 1) yelp reviews of people who live in Laguna Niguel, where the highest rated restaurant is In-n-Out, and 2) reviews of a Chinese restaurant on Yelp To get all these awards and recognition from OC Register/LA Times, that's just a sad statement of the state of their journalistic and food reviewing skills. No go, will never return, won't recommend to any friends, but hey what is my review going to do against these 200 other reviews.

Yum! Sooo good! I can't believe that that Eddie L. guy would be such a douche and give the place 2 stars just because it wasn't authentic enough for him, yet he exclaimed how to service and atmosphere were amazing. Yea, it isn't the most authentic Chinese place, but for starters, you're in OC, and secondly, a place doesn't have to be completely authentic for it to be good. This is the best Chinese food I've had in OC, regardless of how authentic it is, so I had to come here to mask has lowzy review with my 5 star. Anyways, lets talk about the place. I think China Moon gives a new meaning to a Chinese restaurant. Clean, great service, great atmosphere. It's not a dumpy little place either, it's actually quite the opposite. Servers are also always on top of things. There is a young asian man that works there (I believe he is the manager) and he really knows how to run a restaurant He is always incredibly nice. I also love the fact that they will put a pitcher of water on your table so you can refill it yourself. Also, don't forget to get those crispy noodles with the sweet and sour and Chinese mustard! $1 if you are there for dinner, and they give you it free for lunch. For the food...well...mmmmmmm! Haven't had something here that doesn't taste good. Don't forget to call in and reserve a Peking duck, because they go quick! Here are a few of my favorites so far: -kung pao chicken -beef with scallops -peking duck -wonton soup -Shanghai dumplings -aromatic shrimp -shrimp in lobster sauce (if you like gooey things) -N.Y. eggrolls -beef and broccoli -hot and sour soup If you're still reading this review then I honestly don't know what it will take to convince you to get up and go to China Moon!

I'm not an expert on Chinese food but I could tell that this place had quality food. I got the jade chicken which came with spinach and a white sauce. It was really good and I ate it with a side of rice. One of my friends got the fried rice which looked pretty good while my other friend got sesame shrimp. I'm not much of a shrimp fan but my friend seemed to like what she ordered. I noticed that this restaurant serves its dishes family style. The proportions are fairly big so it's a great place to come with a group of friends. I'm the kind of person who likes to have a little bit of everything so this place is perfect. The service of this place was really good. Actually, they kept refilling my glass of water every time I took a few sips... The ambiance of this place is great. The seats are comfy and nice. Everything is modern-looking with a bit of Chinese decorations here and there. This is a good restaurant to visit.

Fortune cookie says, "Dogs have owners, cats have staff." Smiling hostesses greet you as you walk through the entryway. The take-out desk is very helpful and offers great suggestions. They give you an approximate time on your food. When you order they will ask how many people will be eating the meal; not sure why. Quality of food: good. Quantity of food: perfect. Price of food: just right.

I was in the mood for Chinese food today and decided to try China Moon. I'm sure glad I did! The food was EXCELLENT, the service was GREAT and all of the staff seemed HAPPY to be there. Each and every one of them checked on our party as they passed our table without any of them being the slightest bit intrusive. They all seemed very proud of the quality of the cuisine and their establishment as a whole, which is rare these days. Would I return for another visit? I surely would! I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you haven't already. You'll probably see me there.

As a 39 week pregnant lady I have been craving Chinese food lately and tried two other places before finding China Moon. This place was delicious. The restaurant was beautiful, clean and inviting and the staff was so nice. I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat and the server not only recommended something that was delicious but had the chef modify it for me. I would absolutely eat here again and would recommend it to anyone, pregnant or not, who is craving amazing Chinese food.

I give this only three stars because the staff is so friendly! I have yet to find good Chinese food here in Orange County. I'm a food snob but the food here was not at all that flavorful or good. Very bland and the meat on the ribs was awful. Hot and Sour soup needs more flavor. I would give it two stars. I guess I would only go back if starving for food! Don't get the people who say its the best.

Finally! A great Chinese restaurant in South OC. No more trips to Hacienda Heights when I have a craving! We came here on a Sunday night at 5. Very few customers, but the place filled up fast. Few people waiting when we left. The menu is pretty extensive and much to pick from. We ordered Peking Duck with buns, the Three Ingredients Taste, Taiwanese Rice Noodles with BBQ Pork, and Wonton Soup. You could tell that the ingredients were very fresh and the dishes well prepared. This is now our local goto place for great Chinese food.

Very good, fresh, and nicely presented dishes. I liked their prompt seating and beverage service. They open for dinner at 4:30p and their location was just the right distance from the Cinepolis Movie Theaters to catch the 6p showing. Their steamed fish with a sukiyaki-ginger sauce is memorable; see my pics of this dish and the Kung-pao shrimp with steamed vegetables & steamed rice. Can't wait to go back and try out their other dishes.

China Moon is delicious! I would recommend their wonton soup (which is a meal in itself), their three ingredient taste, and their fish specials! We have been coming to China Moon for years and have not been disappointed. Jackson and his family are always extremely welcoming and have great recommendations if you are unsure of what you want!

This is literally what I had for dinner tonight. Such good Chinese food... And in Laguna Niguel!! Forget any notions about Chinese food that you've ever experienced in those dumpy, $4 per plate places, Panda Express, and anything you've ever seen come out of a giant metal serving bin. That is NOT Chinese food... But China Moon definitely fits the bill for what it is/should be- China Moon is also not what you'd find in a place like Sam Woo. It's authentic without being oily. Flavors are PACKED into dishes, and everything is so... Inexpensive. On a Saturday night, my party of two was seated within 15 minutes. The restaurant was the happening place to be in Laguna Niguel apparently. Even with a full house and a wait, the staff was the most attentive that I have ever experienced. My water glass was never half full, the tea cup was never cold, and we were asked multiple times about how we were doing, if the food was good, if we needed anything, etc. GREAT SERVICE. The two dishes that we got were amazing. Lo mein noodles with beef, and the tofu sizzling platter. Tofu was melt in your mouth delicious and the noodles were just perfect. You know that craving that you get for noodles? This works. The two dishes filled two girls up with ease. Oh, and their fortune cookies are cute.

Authentic or Not, Food is Delicious Food: Their signature dish shrimp was delicious. Fried goodness with a tasty sauce. You get two versions, and it's scrumptious. The shrimp fried rice was also salivating, although I wish the portions here were bigger. The duck was just okay because we had a serving where there was a lot of untrimmed fat on the duck. The orange chicken was nice, and didn't seem too greasy. Value: Yes, you can probably find cheaper places to eat Chinese, but the quality here seemed excellent. Value-wise, I thought it was great -- in the mid-range for a nice sit-down restaurant with great service. Service: As I said above, service was great! They leave a bottle of water with you so you don't need to flag someone down like you do at other places (I wish most restaurants did this). Our server was attentive and polite too. Ambiance: Probably one of the nicer Chinese restaurants I've been to ... then again, this is South County so you're going to see this kind of stuff. Great place for a date. Overall: Sometimes I hear criticism about ethnic food where the underlying subtext seems to be that if the restaurant isn't in some kind of dumpy, ghetto part of town with crap service, then it's not authentic. The food here is Chinese, and whether or not the surroundings resemble what you'd expect from other similar restaurants shouldn't matter. The food is good. Good. Good. Shut up.

I've been here several times and never have I been disappointed by their customer service. Unlike traditional Chinese restaurants where the staff are notoriously reclusive, here everyone is outgoing and friendly. Clearly, the cuisine has been Americanized and caters to the demographic, but the flavors are fresh and clean tasting.

I've been going here on and off since I was a child and now I'm 27. Back in the day, there were only 2 real Chinese restaurants. I don't even remember the name of the other one but it was on the corner of La Paz and Aliso Creek. It closed nearly 15 years ago and so we had China Moon left. Going here is nostalgic. I remember it being (and still is) a "fancy" Chinese restaurant. Sometimes my mom just craved Sweet and Sour soup. Our usual order: Sweet and Sour soup, lettuce wraps, Mu Shu Pork. I suspect she chose these dishes because it was a treat for me. Support your local Chinese restaurant, serving sleepy Laguna Niguel!

I did take out here. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food was good! They offered hot tea while I was waiting for my take out. We ordered chicken lettuce wraps, ma po tofu, wonton soup and chicken vegetable for entree. There was a lot of meat and seafood in the wonton soup. It was good!

The food here is delicious and fresh! Also, the staff is super friendly and attentive. My family and I have been going here for years. Aromatic shrimp and fish in black bean sauce are some of our favorites. Pretty much everything is good though. I'm picky with Chinese food and am not fond of not being able to truly distinguish what kind of meat or what part I am eating. This place is Chinese done right. Highly recommend it.

My favorite chinese restaurant .... EVER! Best service, best food. Me and my husband have been coming here for years, my husband's family know the owners and now I do too. They know us as soon as we come in, seat us, and bring us fried chips/water/tea right away. Andy usually knows what we want because we order the same thing pretty much every time. John is also very attentive. Jackson, the owner, is always involved in day to day operations, and we often see him greeting guests and visiting tables. The food is so fresh and flavorful, and it always keeps me coming back for more. Pricing is reasonable for the quality you get. Best part, leftovers!!

If you're looking for cheap, greasy, C-rated (Health Department) Chinese food, head to Chinatown. China Moon is higher-end and won't give you THAT stomachache. We ordered eggplant, Ma La Beef, refreshing cucumber salad and some perfectly cooked brown rice. For those of you vegetarians out there, the eggplant was ridiculously tender and tasty. Even your meat-eating friends will want some. The server suggested we start with the cucumber salad, which was cold, crisp, tangy and refreshing on a super-hot day. I grew up eating Chinese food and there's a lot of crap food out there. This is Chinese food you can feel good about eating. We plan on returning!

Huge fan of this place....had the aromatic shrimp, and salad w chicken and both were amazing. The salad was crisp, the dressing was light and refreshing. Shrimp was spicy, with amazing flavor. Oh, and their soft drinks are not served in a can! Bonus!

Since so many rave about the food, which is fantastic by the way, let me rave about the restaurant itself and the staff. The staff is INCREDIBLY friendly. I love the strategy they've used in serving customers. Keep a pitcher of water at the table but let them serve you in convenience to both you and them. It really doesn't take up that much space. It seemed as though every server split the tips at the end of the day, which I love this use of service since it allows for the entire staff to be your waiter. The atmosphere is phenomenal. Nice, romantic lighting for dinner time. I went here with my girlfriend and we both felt comfortable talking with one another about any subject. Not only that, the booths were comfortable as well. Lastly, the food is really incredible. I will definitely come back. It has become one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. Food: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Price: 4/5

Just ordered dinner. We have been in the hunt for good chinese food here in Orange County. The one place we liked in irvine shut down due to the greedy bastards at irvine company. This place is ok. Nothing to make me want to drive the 11 miles each way to go back there but not the worst. The fried rice is very bland and white. The peppered chicken was good. The corn soup was gross, nothing more than egg drop soup with some can corn thrown in. Egg rolls were tasteless. Orange chicken was good and had great flavor. The noodles (thin ones) could be great with a brown sauce but came with no flavor. The fortune cookie was yummy. $85 seemed high but lots of leftovers.

Its so hard to find great authentic Chinese food outside of Alhambra or china town. I like to go to this place from time to time when I visit my parents in OC. It's fresh and not overly greasy. Great Chinese food for OC that's for sure.. Not sure it lives up to the hype tho.. The waitstaff is very friendly and know a lot of regulars by name. Lunch portions are really small! Comes with miso soup and spring roll. Usually lunch is cheaper and worth it, not sure if that was the case here. The edamame comes with a great mustard wasabi sauce! Warning: You wont find the two flavor shrimp on the lunch menu though.. Beef broccoli is excellent. The beef is very tender and juicy! You can't go wrong with this dish. Aromatic shrimp was a bit disappointing (one of the highly acclaimed shrimp in the Two Flavor Shrimp dish) The orange chicken is good but as crispy as I like. Chefs beef is also a good, it's really sweet tho if that's what u like. I'd reccomend leaving the area for really amazing chinese food experience. Unlike the misleading yelp reviews claim, its not one.

This is the only Chinese restaurant we'll go to now, we love the cozy atmosphere, the incredibly friendly staff, the wonderful service and of course the food! I can't attest to whether or not every dish is authentic, but everything I've had here has been delicious. They recently added a chicken curry to the menu and it is my new favorite! If you are in the area and want a great Chinese food experience head to China Moon!

The food at China Moon is good and it was one of our favorite places to take guests until recently. We had friends visiting from out of the country and our party of five went to China Moon in early evening . After about a 5 minute wait, we were seated by a host in a large booth to accommodate our party. Shortly after being seated, we were approached by another employee who we assumed was a server. This person told us that there had been people ahead of us waiting for a table. We assumed that he thought we had seated ourselves and explained that we had been seated by the host. He then told us that the host was new and shouldn't have seated us because there were other people waiting for tables. (There were no other large parties waiting and we observed that there were only small parties of two or three waiting and we observed that there were other open tables in the restaurant. ) We told this person that we were sorry for the misunderstanding that we had guests with us (now in the restrooms) and that we had been seated by the host. This employee then told us that we would have to "wait our turn to be seated" and proceeded to tell us that we could not stay at the table. We asked where we might be able to wait with our party and he told us that we would need to wait on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Because the booth where we had been seated was in the back of the restaurant, we were forced to walk through the entire restaurant full of patrons looking at us as if we had done something untoward. This was an embarrassing situation and very humiliating as we were marched out of the establishment . We waited obligingly outside just long enough to locate another establishment . As we were gathering to leave , the host came outside to tell us that a table was ready for us. It was exactly the same table that we were asked to vacate in shame! They had not seated anyone there in our absence. We were already embarrassed in front of our foreign guests who were perplexed and uncomfortable and did not want to stay so we opted to leave . We ultimately ate at New Mandarin Garden where we had a wonderful meal and were treated like royalty! If you go to China Moon just for the food, you might be happy as long as you avoid the breaded dishes but if you are looking for any customer service or courtesy to this establishments patrons, you'll want to keep looking . We will not return to China Moon. Maybe they have had just a bit too much praise and don't think that customer service counts anymore.

Best Chinese food south of Irvine. I did not expect it to be as good as it was being in the Laguna Niguel area. It was very authentic and tasty. The host was very inviting when we first walked in, very friendly. It was a Wednesday night so there was no wait. He walked us to our table and sat us. The ambiance was very nice, dim lighted for a nice romantic dinner. Our waiter was Shu, very nice guy. Told us the specials and got us drinks. We ordered the 2 flavor shrimp, Orange Chicken, and Dan Dan noodles as well as the special appetizer, pickled cucumber. The 2 flavored shrimp was delicious, it had a lot of flavor and was worth the $16.95 plate. Orange Chicken was flavorful as well. The Dan Dan noodles, I didn't really care for. It was just ok. The pickled cucumber was to die for GOOD! I hope to have that again next time I come in if the special is still around. Service is exceptional, I heard a lot of customers coming in and being greeted by name which makes me believe this place is home to a lot of regulars. I will for sure be back to China Moon!

Best Chinese Food hands down. I mean, we've been going to place for years and any other Chinese place we'd try, we would always compare to that. But this place even tops that. Think it's safe to say we found a new favorite.

Went the other night and it was busy due to the fact they had a large party to serve. With that being the case it slowed service to a crawl. We waited almost 20 minutes for our soup. When asked the server pointed to the large group. When we got the soup it was good but the rest of the food was just ok. Nothing special. May try again when they don't have a large party.

What a find. Excellent food, good value, and warm, exceptional service. This is a family owned, top notch chinese restaurant, and the service showed. Chef's beef was the star of the meal for me, although everything we ordered was delicious. We'll definitely be returning regularly.

I remember eating at Chinese food restaurants as a kid and dreading the experience. I'm sure it is the same now for my two boys. Ginger and the crew really make the kids happy to be there. The food here is typical of what I'd expect from a popular, established neighborhood eatery. Consistent and delicious. I never leave without getting the moo-shu. The service is wonderful and the food is as good if not better. I've been eating here for years. If you're in the area for business, or tired of your local place, give China Moon a whirl. You may not have a new favorite, but you will not be disappointed.

Best Chinese place in south OC. Service is excellent, food is fresh and delicious. Take out is just as great! Only downside: they close early :(

The best Chinese food I have had in many moons. The ambiance is sophisticated and clean. No red plastic booths. Beautiful greys, blues and pine accents. The food is prepared to order (if you don't like spicy, they make it mild). No greasy dishes. Each dish tasted unique. The wonton soup is full of meats and fresh veggies. The waitstaff is friendly and professional. I will not go to another Chinese restaurant when I am in Laguna Niguel!

It is the best Chinese food I have had in South County. But I was raised near a Chinatown where great food from all areas of China is in abundance. When I go for Chinese I want spice. I want heat. I want Szechuwan and all the fire that goes with it. This is not that. There was no POW in the Kung Pao (I mean NO heat at all) and the small bits of connected (sorry for the visual) thigh meat left me very cold. My mistake for not asking for breast meat substitution which I am certain they would have accommodated. Mongolian beef was good and quite tender and while onions could have been cooked longer, scallion was seriously over-cooked and really slimy, for lack of a better word. I loved the fresh, light approach to their chicken fried rice...search was ON for chicken, though. Aromatic shrimp was fantastic! Potstickers were fantastic! NY egg roll also quite good, very crispy and just out of the fryer but no discernible meat in mine. My extremely adventurous son ordered a beef/scallop dish that arrived last and thank goodness for that - it was very fishy and I was down wind from it the rest of meal! We were not offered tea like others were...whether or not an upcharge was required. Our meal ended with a large tub of fortune cookies that we were to reach into and choose from (bad feng shui?) and while everyone at the table was eyeing the other large tub of almond cookies - we were not offered any...??? Nice atmosphere, clean ladies room (tiny trash can by the door handle - awesome touch for those of us who open the door with our paper towel!!) and VERY lovely staff, from host, to server, to bus - all with a smile and great energy!

Great family run restaurant, with an elegant flare. They get quite busy on the weekends, so it is a good idea to make reservations. I only wish they had a dim sum brunch!

Went to this Chinese restaurant in hopes of finding decent Chinese food in south Orange County but no luck. I guess I am spoiled by good Chinese food from the Bay Area. The food really lacked flavor. I ordered a so called spicy dish and tasted no spice at all in the dish. The moo shu pork did not taste like moo shu I have had before something was missing since they came already rolled I couldn't tell what was inside. If anyone knows of a good Chinese restaurant in south Orange County please let me know. I will keep trying till I find one. This is not it.

This place is pretty good. My boss took me here for my birthday for lunch and we were greeted right away. Staff is super friendly and the food was good. I got a birthday song and cool chopsticks that come in like a travel case. Overall, if recommend it.

My husband and I love the food here. Service in the restaurant is always excellent. Recently we decided to have food catered from here for a party. We ordered about $500 worth of food. Unfortunately they do not give you free dishes for purchasing a certain amount of food. But that was okay with us since we like the food. A few hours after paying and bringing the food to our party, they call me saying they forgot to charge us for $60 worth of food. They told me I could come in and take care of it next time. I was quite upset because we spent so much already that they didn't have the decency to let this slide. When picking up the food, the lady took a long time to calculate and recalculate our total. AND still it was wrong. This experience has left a bad taste in our mouths. We will definitely look into other restaurants for future catering needs.

Great chinese!!! Recently had dinner w my wife and a young asian guy helped us. He was the most polite and helpful yung guy u will ever meet! I later found out he is a single lad looking for love but works too much and is the son of the owners resturant. He made the dinning experience much more enjoyable! Not to take anything away from the actual food itself bc it is delicious especially the potstickers! Great food/employees and dinning experience!

We were feeling chinese food and didn't want to go to our normal spot in Laguna, so we headed out to China Moon since it was getting rave reviews and felt more like an adventure. We entered the small, semi dark cozy and romantic restaurant and immediately liked the atmosphere. The service was super friendly and as informative as they possibly could be about the dishes we asked about (though sometimes hard to understand). From the large menu, this is what we decided on: NY Eggrolls Rice Soup 1/2 Peking Duck with both types of "rolls" 2 Flavor Shrimp Delicious kettle of hot tea The food was definitely different and maybe more authentic than what I'm used to, but that made it taste all the better - it definitely set itself apart from the normal hole in the wall chinese place and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality, the freshness and overall presentation of the dishes we ordered. The NY Eggrolls were flavorful and a nice change from the normal Spring Rolls. The Rice Soup was hearty and delicious, but on top of the Rolls and the two dishes we ordered, was definitely a filler I wish I saved for another time (but would order again!). The Peking Duck was to die for. It melted and in combination with the spring onions and cucumber, was really the highlight - so much so I didn't have room for the shrimp. And with it's reviews, and our full bellies from the tons of food we had before it came out, sadly the shrimp did not get devoured like most other reviews stated it would - but that is not the restaurants fault what-so-ever! We will just have to come back and order it by itself so it doesn't end up in a to-go box that goes ignored in the fridge because we eat out all the time.. d'oh!

I have been traveling to China for 30 years and have been nearly everywhere in the country as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong. I happen to love Chinese food but some of the authentic Chinese is a bit much for me. The menu at China Moon takes the best of what China has and makes it better. The flavors are extraordinary and its immediately apparent that they care about your meal. In it's presentation, in the service it is now the only place I will go to eat Chinese food. For me it's a 30 minute drive from Newport and $10 on the toll roads and that won't faze me one little bit. The drive is worth the food. There may be better somewhere up near L.A. but after more than 100 trips to China I now can eat "GREAT" Chinese food right here in O.C.

Best service EVER. Never in my years of dining have I ever experienced such amazing service. Andy was our waiter for our meal and he was a SUPERSTAR -from the moment we sat down to when we left the restaurant. Not only was Andy amazing but everyone else that worked there was so friendly and attentive I felt like I was among friends. A+ service! Food? In my opinion it was alright. But I was more impressed with the service haha

Real good Chinese, eat in or take out. Big servings and good price. I should say that I'm a vegetarian, and I 'm deducting a point because there aren't a lot of vegetarian dishes; only two tofu dishes, and I'm not thrilled about either of them. Mail friend, who eats chicken, loves this place like mad. Moving on. My girlfriend and I ate in once. We had the excellent veggie spring rolls, a noodle dish (can't recall which, but it was great), and the not that great ma po tofu. Next time, we ordered out, and got the hot and sour soup, sesame chicken, and spicy eggplant; every dish was killer, the eggplant especially. In short, very good Chinese. Hugs to this place.

I frequent this place for lunch. Service is great Food is great and reasonably priced for a sit-down restaurant. I get the Seafood Imperial everytime I go and I love it. Also comes with soup and little cracker things to dip in sauce. Andy is my homeboy

Went to this restaurant tonight because we saw all the good reviews on Yelp. Ordered the prawn w/ black bean sauce, spicy brocolli and roasted duck. Everything was yummy and the service was the best I've had in any Chinese restaurant! Also, the decor is very nice and not tacky like most Chinese joints. A lot of moving space - tables aren't over-crowded. Ginger and Shu were our waiters....very polite and attentive!! Will go there again! P.S. They are closed on Tuesdays.

Wow...Best fried rice in town (you must seasoning it up with the chili oil)! The shanghai dim sum is to die for too... As any good restaurant deserving an excellent review it requires just few words! Simply an amazing place with a great service.

I just signed up for Yelp to give these folks a review because they went above and beyond last night. I ordered for take out and went to go pick it up, when I returned home I received the wrong order. Of course my kids were not pleased since it was their order that was not there. However, when I called them to explain the snafu, they immediately had someone leave the restaurant and deliver the correct order. Every time we go there, they are extremely friendly and attentive. Being a native East Coaster, this is as good as it gets. And I am a food snob. My favorites here are: Shrimp and Lobster sauce, salt and pepper calamari, sesame chicken, NY egg rolls. My only complaints are: The NY egg rolls are bit pricey. Folks, egg rolls are a $1.50 on the east coast, seriously? The wonton soup is not what I am used to. They add a lot of extra stuff in it, which kinda takes away from the wonton. Same for the Hot and Sour, taste is good but just too many bamboo shoots. Just a personal preference. We will remain regulars here. Thanks for your excellent service China Moon.

Where do I start? Maybe with the fact that we have been going here since the late '80's, also dining at their Monarch Beach (closed) restaurant, China Sea. Maybe with the fact that I have counted my blessings over and over, for the fact that we have the best Chinese restaurant in OC within a mile or so of our home. Maybe because not only are the owners (and their sons Jonathan & Benjamin) super people; kind, friendly...and the staff that they have in place is top-notch! Andy and Ginger have been with them for many years; efficient, good-natured, sweet & kind and many of the other newer servers are wonderful, too. But the food, the best Chinese I've ever had. Bar none. i love pretty much everything I've ever had-from the Hunan Capitol Shrimp, to any of the Kung Pao dishes, the Orange Chicken, Sizzling rice soup, their steamed dumplings, spring rolls, mu shu, oh my...this list would go on to pretty much cover their entire menu. China Moon is our go to place to celebrate anything; engagements, birthdays, graduations, the fact it's Friday-and to just to go. It's like home. Jackson, Vanissa, Jonathan, Ben, Ginger & Andy-all like family.

Been coming here and their former restaurant, China Sea, since 1995 or earlier. Pretty much grew up eating at this place. Best Chinese food in south county without a doubt. Quality ingredients and excellent service. The owners are amazing people and always in the dinning room making sure everything is running to the highest standards. Can't say I've ever had a bad dish or complaint here after 18+ years.

Everything I was looking for in a restaurant, good food, clean, excellent service, reasonably priced and did I mention good food! This is probably the best chinese food I have had. My son and daughter left there asking when we can go back!!

I have been coming to this place since I was a kid! I love the waiters and the food. The owners are also very nice and check up with you from time to time. My family and I always have an amazing time coming here. I've never had a bad dish here. I never eat Chinese food anywhere else because this place is straight up the best. China moon is also good for take out! When you get the food home its just as good as eating it in the restaurant.

For Chinese--this is as good as it gets. Duck with pancakes hoisin sauce and scallions is my favorite. Their soup a close second. You can't go wrong with the lo mein or the moo shu pork. Even better than the food is the staff--especially Andy! Always lights up our day

ok, I've been here twice in the last week! The ambiance is wonderful and so is the service. Nice evening out or delish pickup. I highly recommend the Spicy Orange Chicken, the New York style eggrolls, and the Pan-Fried Noodles! *If you grab a take home order all of the above items could use a quick crisp in the broiler and then you are good to go!

Love China Moon. My grandparents lived here for many years and know the owners very well... they always took great care of us and every time we came in we felt like family. Their two flavored shrimp is a fav of mine. Delicious noddles to start with and we love Jackson. Going here will forever remind me of my Nanny and Grandpa. Every time I am in CA I try to stop by.

I'm all about authentic when it comes to asian food. I thought this place was the typical Americanized chinese restaurant but they proved me wrong. Everything was tasty and surprisingly not greasy. For starter, I had the peppered calamari. The best part of the calamari was the dipping sauce! Some of the best dishes are beef chow fun, kung pao chicken, beef and scallop, and sesame chicken. Their lunch specials are also great! Oh yeah and amazing service!

BEST CHINESE FOOD AROUND. And you will not find customer service like this anywhere, Jackson (owner) knows all of his regulars and refers to them by name. Always remembers what you order, and is just a genuinely sweet person. Most importantly, the food, AWESOME! Very authentic, you can taste the freshness. Must try!

I cannot believe that I have overlooked this place as a go to Chinese restaurant. As anyone knows PF Changs and Pick up sticks is not Chinese. This place is now my go to Chinese place as I always went to Peking dragon in Dana point. Everything that we had ordered was not only up to par but IMO this place is better than Peking dragon. Reasonable prices excellent taste.

  • Paul R.

Very glad we tried skipping PF Chang's for once and trying something new. The restaurant is very nice inside. It is not what you would expect from a strip mall chinese restaurant. Very clean and modern decor. The service is very good. Orders are taken promptly and the food came relatively quickly. The sweet and sour chicken is the best sweet and sour chicken I have ever had. So fresh and good. Eggrolls also great.

  • Hannah M.

I was really excited to try this place after seeing all of the great reviews. I was sadly disappointed. We wanted to try a bunch of items to try everything out. The Shanghai dumplings were thick and barely had any soupy goodness in the dumpling. The kung pao chicken tasted like it was seasoned with just soy sauce and vinegar...nothing like it was supposed to taste. It had a strange sour taste. Ma po tofu and pan fried noodles were not very good. Calamari was the only thing that was decent.

  • Tina C.

They serve good chinese food for Laguna Niguel/Dana Point standards. I've had much better chinese food in Irvine. We tried schezuan spicy lamb, jade chicken, and schezuan shredded pork. Flavors were pretty good but I thought they all were soaked with too much sauce which I dislike.

  • Nico D.

So surprised how terrible the food was. It was cold and tasted so bad, we literally took a few bites and couldn't finish. I'm giving two stars because the server was friendly and very apologetic that the food took so long to make.

Great Chinese food in South Orange County!!! I was craving chinese food, and so my husband and I decided to go to China Moon! We got seated right away at 7:30pm on a Saturday night, not bad! Very nice decor inside. Our waiter was so funny and so friendly! He made jokes, and made our dining experience so much more! Very good service! Professional, friendly, and fun! We started with the NY chicken egg rolls and the calamarai. we loved both! The calamrai was not too fried, and the dipping sauce was SO GOOD!! wow! My husband ordered the two flavored shrimp, and all I have to say is "WOW!!!", we both rolled our eyes as we were both in heaven. If you like shrimp, order this!! I ordered mongolian beef, it was good, not WOW, but pretty good. The portions are big, so you will have a doggy bag to take home, Next time we are craving chinese food, we wont think of going any where else!

We are Chinese Food lovers, and visit one everywhere we go. China Moon was our choice today, celebrating the Chinese New Year (year of the snake). The grown ups had the Rainbow Shrimp (combination of sesame and aromatic shrimp) and we loved it. We ate the whole thing! Our 2 children loved their lo-mein and fried rice. The service wasn't too bad. The place is very old, so we hope they keep it clean. The carpet looked so old, it was falling apart, it definitely could use a remodel--heck, I'll do it for you! I'll remodel your restaurant! :)

This was our second visit to China Moon, and our experience was even better than the first time. The service is friendly and very professional, and the staff gives me the impression that they like where they work. I highly recommend the Beef & Broccoli and the Sweet and Sour Chicken. It's nice to finally have found a great Chinese food place that's local.

Wow - thanks again Yelpers for helping me find China Moon. Excellent Chinese food - and overall great dining experience. We happened to be in the area yesterday evening and I remember reading about this place before, so... found it on Yelp, switched to Google maps, and we were in the parking lot within minutes. Nice big restaurant with comfortable booths - although mine had some duct tape on the seat, but that's all OK. As long as it doesn't stick to my ass. The waiter was very friendly and funny to boot. A few other guys there came by to joke around with us and say hello as well. They have some cheap house wines and beer here, but I'm trying to lay off the sauce for a few weeks. We started with the sizzing rice soup - great, although we should have asked for it with no mushrooms, but that was our fault. Perfect sized order, as we both both got about 1 and a half bowls. Plenty of chicken, pork, and shrimp. For entrees we split an order of the kung pao chicken and 2-way shrimp. I asked if the kung pao came with white or dark meat and he said "dark, but do you want white?" I said, yes, and that was not a problem. The two way shrimp was lighly breaded and came with half sweet and sour shrimp, and half of a walnut style shrimp, although no walnuts. Both entrees were excellent and came out fresh and hot. The guy who brought out the food joked with us saying - "you like dark meat, right?" We pretty much finished both entrees completely. Shrimp had the perfect amount of breading and the kung pao chicken was some of the best I've ever had - nice tender white meat chicken and a good proportion of water chestnuts, green onions, and hot peppers. Oh, and the hot tea was good too and they even came out to refill it. Total came to about $45 - I don't know if they charged extra for my brown rice or the white meat, but it seemed reasonable. Damn - I wish there was a place like this in Irvine. It is definitely Americanized style Chinese food, but not something like PF Changs - at least the waiters are Chinese. I know the hadcore authentic Yelpers will hate me for this, but I don't particularly enjoy "authentic" Chinese food, and there is sure plenty of it here in Irvine. Our other two favorite places - China West at Harvard and Main closed down, and Chinez (see my review) changed ownership and went 90 degrees downhill. If you live in the area or are in the area, you must try China Moon if you're craving Chinese food. It doesn't get much better than this. BTW - it's nice to have about eight different employees yell "By - thank you," when you're leaving. I just wish they were closer to Irvine.

We went back there again, but this time, we spent a lot of time waiting for food to come, and in the end the fried rice came (that's the reason we went there), it tasted so bland, very disappointed.

Went here with my boyfriend and we got the dinner special B. More food then we could handle and it was sooo good. The service was outstanding, our waiter was really amazing. This place was a little on the loud side but then I guess a totally pack restaurant would be. This is hidden gem! I especially liked the random mountain art work right when you walk in, priceless!

Redeeming strip mall dining everywhere, this is Americanized Chinese food at its best! Wanting to have something simple after the long weekend of decadent dinners I stumbled upon this place. To locals its known as "The Chinese place", simply because its the only one. Don't worry, there doesn't need to be another, because this place is fantastic.

China Moon was incredible!!! I got food to take out. The service was super prompt and very friendly. I was offered tea while I waited. There were a lot of regulars which is always a good sign and the owner remembers everyone which is even better. The food was amazing! I was eating spring rolls on my drive home and they were delicious. The lo mein noodles were the best I've had since living on the east coast. I will totally go back to China Moon again.

On many occasions this restaurant has proven it's value to not only me, but my boyfriend as well. We had planned a special evening together because it was our anniversary. He had made reservations at the Macaroni Grill and I was very excited to get a chance to just relax and be catered to. After arriving 15 minutes early for our reservation we were told that we'd have to wait. We waited 45 minutes from the time of our reservation and received nothing, but attitude from the hostess. I was nearly in tears because I felt the evening was going to be completely ruined since everything he had planned was on a set schedule. Thinking fast, we decided to leave Macaroni Grill (not without expressing our dissatisfaction with the hostess and her bad attitude to her manager), and decided that we should try China Moon. We called ahead and asked what the wait time would be for 2 people to dine in. The hostess was so pleasant and said that there would be no wait time and that the table would be ready for us by the time we arrived. Not only did they have the table ready, but they paired us with their BEST waitress. If I recall correctly, her name was Lindsey. She greeted us with a smile. She knew when she was needed and when she was not. She allowed us to enjoy our meal and time together before giving us 2 fortune cookies and wishing us a happy anniversary. We were so thrilled with her service that we complimented her to the manager! What could have been a potentially ruined anniversary, China Moon stepped up to the challenge and made it a night to remember! We are soooo grateful to the wonderful staff at China Moon! Thank you!

Everything I have tried here is AMAZING. The sesame chicken is so different than anywhere else I have ever tried & it is downright awesome. Best Chinese food I've ever eaten. Definitely a more expensive place to dine, but soooo worth it!

I really was hoping for more based on the high ratings this place received... I was too disappointed because what we ordered was pretty good. We ordered hot and sour soup, spring rolls, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice.. Everything was good except for the hot and sour soup, which had a funny taste to it. We liked the decor, presentation and service and maybe had we ordered different entrees we would have been more pleased with our overall dining experience. Good food but probably wouldn't recommend this place based on our visit there...

Excellent service, very clean and nice inside the restaurant. Even dealt with my picky grandma's requests with charm. It is a bit hard to tell what the restaurant is like from the outside - it was a nondescript strip mall location, but worth it once you get inside. I felt the food was good for a reasonable price - wish there was a bit more spice for me, but PERFECT for a family outing and a grandma who thinks that spare ribs are the height of Chinese cuisine. ;)

Great food, cozy interior and great service! Hunan Spicy Lamb was very tasty and on the lunch special which was just the right portion. Super fresh. They even start you with won ton chips and sweet & sour sauce as well as spicy mustard. I'd definitely recommend this spot and go back often.

This is top-notch Chinese food and excellent service. The owner, Jackson, created a cucumber salad appetizer that is not on the menu and is AWESOME. Fried rice is light and not greasy, peppercorn fish is amazing, mixed vegetables are fresh, lightly cooked and delicately seasoned. Spring rolls melt in your mouth. Uh oh, I'm hungry for some China Moon now!!

For the critics who criticize those saying it's authentic. Maybe it's not China authentic but it is excellent New York style Chinese food which is exactly what is missing all over OC. The food came out hot, the protein was high quality, the flavors amazing and the service was excellent. China moon is thirty minutes from home but we will be back.

With China Sea gone, this is THE place for sit-down Chinese food in South Orange County. As a previous review mentioned, the owners of China Moon once owned another two restaurants (China Sea in Monarch Beach being one of them, along with another in Irvine)... China Moon also used to be much larger, sporting an AYCE Mongolian BBQ. Some years back though, for some reason or another, the owners cut everything back to just China Moon, dropping the Mongolian BBQ as well. It's a shame because China Sea is STILL talked about to this day - but it lives on in China Moon. For those who had favorite dishes at China Sea, China Moon will still whip them up for you despite not being on the menu. Anyways, enough living in the past... Everything about China Moon is top notch. Just do yourself a favor, go check it out for yourself... Be sure to order the sesame shrimp.

Excellent food, excellent service, and great ambience! This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's a great dining experience. All of the food was flavorful but not greasy or overbearing. I especially liked the Cashew Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, and Moo Goo Gai Pan.

We loved this place, especially because we ordered it to go & paired it with some wine from the wine bar in the same plaza. The decor alone is enough reason to go back! Also, this place has had numerous professional reviews written about how the owner built this place from the ground up & the chef is classically trained. Well, he certainly made great spring rolls & spicy chicken. It'll be great to come back & sample more delights.

My husband decided that we needed a "date night" - dinner and go see a band in San Clemente at the OC Tavern. Then he dropped the bomb - let's go have Chinese! No, I said as there are no good Chinese restaurants here in South Orange County and never look forward to trying those that people say are good. After much discussion I gave in and sulked until we entered China Moon. First, the decor and leather booths give it a nice cozy environment and the jazz music in the background was a nice touch. We had plenty of time so we wanted to relax, enjoy our wine and beer while sharing small plates versus entrees. We started out with the Sizzling Rice soup and it has to be one of the best I have ever had. Fresh vegetables, water chestnuts and huge chunks of chicken, shrimp and BBQ pork.....it was a meal just by itself and we shared the small portion. I am craving it now as I write this review! My New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and his Chinese beer complimented our soup splendidly. Next we went for the potstickers and that is our test if a Chinese restaurant is good or not and they did not disappoint. Not greasy (like most Chinese restaurants in OC), and generously stuffed with meat...again the portions were big as we got 8 with our order. At this point we were getting full but wanted to try one more thing as Mu Shu pork is my favorite. Again, 4 big stuffed burritos and we could only eat 2 and brought the other 2 home. They were delicious! It is hard to believe that this restaurant has been here 20 years and this was our first time as I used to live up the street and had frequented this plaza many times. Need to advertise! Also, noticed that there are many locals who come here and they can now add our name to the list. I used to not get excited when someone says "lets go eat Chinese" not only will I be excited but they will have to go where I want to eat Chinese and that will be China Moon! I also need to add that the people who work there are overly friendly and the serivce is stellar!

Let me start by saying I enjoyed my meal here and plan to return on a regular basis. Now for the brutal truth. This is western style Chinese food. Far from authentic Chinese cuisine. This is not a bad thing but important to know. The flavors are great and the food is very enjoyable. But I would not go here looking for an authentic Chinese meal experience. The staff is extremely attentive. The host very friendly. The atmosphere is friendly and familiar. I wish they would turn up the lights. To dark for my taste but the decor is modern and nice.

In Orange County, the hell that is the 2.5-star corporate dining, it's rare that you find an owner-operated, authentic restaurant of any kind, let alone one that totally exceeds your expectations. China Moon is that rare exception. Tucked away in a sleepy strip mall, the unassuming facade doesn't do the beautifully-designed interior of the food that reminds you of what Chinese is supposed to taste like when it doesn't come from a Panda Express, justice. We had the spring rolls, the Orange Chicken, the Mu Shu chicken and the chicken fried rice - too much chicken, but that was our own fault. Each item was fresh, simple and incredbly flavorful and satisfying. The spring rolls were light and airy, with vegetables that felt like they were right out of the garden. The chicken in each dish was white meat breast, excellent quality. The fried rice avoided the normal drenching of soy sauce that you see everywhere else and let the vegetables and egg lead the flavor charge. Living in the OC I have long lamented the lack of a go-to place for Chinese. Weeping every time I've eaten Pick Up Stix or Panda Express, finally, I have found a home where I know I will get incredible Chinese, with fresh ingredients and friendly service for a reasonable price. In the OC, that's a blessing. Go enjoy it - now.

Let's just say that I was hooked after my first visit and went back 3 days later. The customer service exceeded my expectations. We had at least 3 different people come check on us and see how we liked everything. The sizzling rice soup is a must!! It has chicken chunks, mushrooms, the most amazing tasting pork pieces, shrimp and veggies!! The Kung Pao Chicken is one of my favorites so far. The Mango Chicken is no longer on the menu but if you love fresh mangos they are cooked with tender juicy chicken breast chunks. My top top favorite dish is definitely the Sesame Shrimp. This is the most delicious item I have had so far. Hope to try everything I can on the menu!!

I guess I live in the wrong town for Chinese. Very hard to find a good, sit down, fresh , well made old style Chinese restaurant to just kick back and relax. Or.. maybe I live in exactly the right town for Chinese..Nothing pretentious, expensive or cheap fried food here.. Just a nice fresh Ginger Beef Stir Fry please..Jasmine tea..more very fresh Stir Fried Chow Mein veggies with Black Bean Sauce. Five hot hand made delicately flavored Egg Rolls. Service is team effort here .Polite and friendly.. Appreciated that. What I love is the relaxation aspect of dining here. Dimly lit, carefully and tastefully decorated for the Holidays.. Bing Crosby singing Christmas Carols in the background... Wait a minute! Bing Crosby???

Never had Chinese food like this before. Fresh food, great authentic meals...friendly staff. Best Chinese food in town...traveled the world and would have to say this is all natural food. Ordered Mongolian beef, shanghai dumplings, hot n sour soup, and amazing fresh water they bring out with a refillable glass. Must go here!! Enjoy fellow foodies

We ordered the sizzling rice soup, salt & pepper calamari, orange chicken, Szechwan shredded pork and sauteed spinach. The calamari was a solid dish albeit clearly not the best of this I've had. The orange chicken could use a LOT less sweet and a lot more spice. This place won't quite make the grade compared to more true-to-form Taiwanese/Chinese restaurants in Irvine but for this hood it is pretty good. At least the flavor is on the lighter side versus going heavy-handed with the sauce and drowning out the flavor and aroma of the meats. Pricing is fair for what you receive and the hood.

this place was down, they had great service like really great and at first glance of the menu it seemed a hair more than what i wanted to spend then the food came out family style in huge portions which explained a lot. The food also was good, basically good place to take a date

My boyfriend found this restaurant and got some food from here. I am usually skeptical of how good Chinese restaurants are being that most are just ok and barely so. I was completely floored by how good the food was. Their egg rolls reminded me of the ones I used to eat as a child. Their hot and sour soup was actually soupy and not gloopy. It had a nice kick and aromatic flavors. Additionally it was still soup like the next day when I had it for left overs. We have gone back at least 3 other times within 2 weeks of finding this gem. I haven't had anything that is less than awesome. The owners and their staff are friendly and are more than willing to give recommendations. I haven't gone for a sit-down and only have done take away. But while waiting for my order, it appeared that every table was given individual attention and every person picking up a take away order always chatted with the owners even if it was for a few moments. It is a bit tucked away but well worth tracking down and returning to over and over again. Super 5+ stars in my book.

The best Chinese food I've found in Orange County. It's Chinese American, but really solid. The portions are big and great for sharing. The ingredients are high-quality. The fried rice is excellent. It's family run and the service is usually excellent. In a strip mall, but surprising nice and comfortable inside. You may have to wait for a table Thur-Sat, but its worth it. This would be 4-star Chinese in NYC or SF, but in they get a bonus star for being the best in a 50-mile radius.

No doubt this is the best chinese restaurant in Orange County. The food and service is both great! I love the mu shu pork, peking duck, steamed dumplings, house lo mein, spring rolls, etc. The list goes on! I wish they were open on Tuesdays, though :(

I give it two stars only because the service is great. The food itself was horrible. We actually returned two of our three dishes. We eat at a lot of Chinese places and unfortunately this ranks at the bottom.

Based on my visit this weekend, I am downgrade to a 3.5 star. When we got to China Moon, it was packed. I have never seen it this busy before. It was so busy that there were at least 4-5 parties waiting outside for a table to free up. This time instead of ordering the family dinner, we ordered a couple of items not in the selection of family dinners to see what else they have to offer. The order: * Mu Shu Pork - below average. there wasn't much pork and there was too much * Hunan Spicy Lamb - there wasn't much lamb in the dish. it was mostly filler veggies. It was average. * Dan Dan Noodles - these were good, but nothing outstanding. The overall experience wasn't bad but wasn't like my previous experiences. Maybe it was a combination of them being overwhelmed and having an off night. I give it a 3.5 star and rounding up to 4 star only because of my many good past experiences at China Moon otherwise it would have been a 3 star.

If you want to eat some wonderful Chinese food, go here! My husband treated me for a dinner and a movie, and we went here. We had the duck which was delicious, the beef and broccoli - another excellent choice, and their rice is fluffy and delicious too. Superb atmosphere. If we have friends or family visiting we will bring them here.

OBest chinese food in South Orange County. Sizzling Rice Soup is the best and great when you are sick. Yang Chow Fried Rice is one of the best my wife has had. She loves to partner it with the flavorful Lemon Chicken. My son loves the chips, yay.

I've been going here (and the china sea location that no longer exists) for many years. Love their hot and sour soup, orange chicken, walnut shrimp, and peppercorn shrimp (my fav)!! Great family owned atmosphere. If you want a different meat choice or crave something that isn't even on the menu they make something up for you!!! Such nice owners and I will continue to be a loyal custer :)

I don't get the hype for this place? After a Sunday at the beach, my wife and I thought we'd get take out from China Moon and eat it later for dinner. We showed up at 4pm. They were closed. They have a few hours between lunch and dinner that they closed down. No problem, we went home and decided to come back later for a sit down experience. We arrived shortly after opening and they were filling up quick. They promptly sat us at a booth that 6 people could fit in comfortably - that's all they have are giant booths. I liked the space but my wife said she needed to scoot in a little farther. After the hostess walked away she told me that her seat had duct tape all over it and the tape was coming up. She didn't want the stick to get on her nice pants. That's something I'd expect from a trucker's diner along Highway 99 in the Central Valley, not a restaurant that gets nearly 5-star reviews in Laguna Niguel. Service was faster than prompt. We quickly had wines and an appetizer on the way. I saw that the Peking Duck was $18 for half and $38 or so for whole. Planning on ordering this I was happy to hear our server tell us that the Peking Duck was one of the 'Specials' for the night. I ordered it. He then asked if I wanted crepes or dumplings with the duck and I chose dumplings. Between us we had a Pork Dumpling appetizer and Peking Duck and Rainbow Shrimp for the main course. When it arrived, I was very surprised at the limited portions. The 1/2 Peking Duck seemed more like 1/8. More like Tapas portions that seem to be so popular these days. I've never ordered Chinese without having a good supply of take home so this would be a first. The food however was excellent. I don't know what authentic Chinese food is like but it would be hard to deny that this wasn't great. Service remained tight through the night as they completely filled and had a steady turn over for take out. Service got a little strange after they brought the bill though. They hovered in the aisle until we were done paying the bill and made it uncomfortable to stick around at all. It was obvious they were in a rush to refill our booth. After returning home I thought that $69 seemed a bit steep for Chinese for 2 people especially since I ordered the 'Special'. I reviewed the bill and found that the 1/2 Peking Duck on 'Special' was still the same price... $18. Not only that but the choice between crepes or dumplings was not something that comes with the order as it was presented - they charged an additional $3 for those. And here's another first... they charged $1.50 for hot tea - something that's free in every other Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. Up to this point we were thinking we'd probably return to give it a second try. That was until we realized we had been scammed.

I will give it one more try. Hubby loved it; I was unimpressed. Prices are lower than Peking Dragon in Dana Point which is always packed. The number of glowing reviews by yelpers without a picture and only three reviews and two friends....eh, highly suspect.

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food then this is the restaurant you must avoid. I visited here because of the 4.5-star reviews but I was very disappointed about the food. I wouldn't call this place an authentic Chinese restaurant. It's more like PF Chang ie. American Chinese food.

I've been a customer for over 25 years. Best Chinese food in South OC. Food is fresh and tasty, service is good and the staff friendly. Jackson and his family make sure i always have a memorable experience. Appetizers, soups and entrees are always warm and tasty. Good variety of seafood dishes and my grandkids are always welcome. If Jackson would just bring back the almond cookies.

Our favorite "go to place" any night of the week. When I'm feeling down, the sizzling rice soup recharges me. We can eat there every night, with dishes like the steamed fish and stirred fried chinese broccoli. Healthy and delicious comfort food. Family run business, and they welcome everyone into their loving family. Sons Benjamin and Jonathan have learned well from their mother and father. Real Chinese food, served in a clean comfortable setting, with friendly and efficient service. Take out is great, but we love dining in with the outstanding friendly service. Give it a try. I'm sure you'll become a regular too!

Yummy yummy yummy I got good food in my tummay! Interior: Dim and fairly small. Very organized though. Service: REAL friendly seeing that it was our first time. We got the shrimp chef specialty and hot and sour soup for free! Food: Speaking of hot and sour soup, it was neither hot nor sour enough. This place doesn't use MSG as I can taste. Could be a pro or con depending on who you're talking to. The yeung chow fried rice has great flavor, lacks msg tho. Orange chicken is meh. The beef with scallions dish is fantastic. String beans are meh: Overall: Definitely not a "oh man so good" place...but I have yet to find a legit Chinese restaurant here in Laguna Niguel

China Moon is a consistantly good to excellent chinese food restaurant. As other reviewers have said, it is more PF Chang style then Sam Woo or other San Gabriel Valley hard core chinese places. i can see giving CM 4 stars, however, the family hospitality that Jackson and his wife have shown this community for 20 year puts my vote at a 5. We typically get the Wor Won Ton Soup, which is a clear beef broth with chicken, shrimp, pork, vegetables and won ton's - For $6.50 this feeds 2-3 and is yummy. We also get the Scallops and Beef on Spinach - nice balance of seafood, beef and healty veggie. The spicy eggplant is consistanty yummy - and they will make custom dishes if you ask. Basically, this restaurant is consistanty good to excellent and has stood the test of time. Say hello to Jackson when you go - he is a nice guy who just wants to serve you a wonderful meal.

If I could give them 6 stars I would. Seriously the best Chinese food in OC. And I've tried many and walked away so disappointed. First of all it is a family owned place. The food is delicious. Their peeking duck is a must try! The service is excellent, on point, attentive and friendly. The ambience is also very nice. Cute, modern clean. You just can't get better then this place! And the prices are so reasonable.

We went here just a few nights ago. Everything was great. Great service, seating was good, it looked well kept inside and everyone was very punctual and on the spot with the whole order. The food was just ok however. Nothing stood out thats why I gave it just an ok review. I left with the feeling that was just ok but Ive had better.

Last week we had a relative in from out of town and were going to go out to dinner... we got to running late, and lo and behold it was around 8:30 and we were having trouble finding somewhere to have dinner other than one of the chains... so I remembered China Moon from a couple of lunch trips from work and we popped over. We had a variety of items, from the pu pu platter (which they can adjust from the size of the party) to two flavor shrimp, mongolian beef plus some other standbys... all was very good. Even my son, who tends to be somewhat discriminating (ok picky) enjoyed it... in fact so much so that he is ready to go back anytime. Fortunately, since we were late, it was quiet. Service was excellent and pleasant with a number of extra touches. While not my favorite Chinese restaurant, it is certainly a top choice, especially if you want a very nice sit down environment.

By far the best Chinese food we've had! The two flavor shrimp is to die for! Kind of pricey though. Wish they offered family meals in a combo instead of ordering by entre. Dine-in is a little disappointing. Each time I've been you have to ask for condiments. Soy sauce, salt, sweet and sour sauce, etc and when you ask, they look at you like you are crazy. But the food is worth it! Wish we still lived in Laguna Niguel, it's always a treat!

This is the best Chinese food I've tried in South Orange County...the reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is the price. It's pretty pricey but the food is good so I'm ok paying for it. My favorite is the Mo Shu Pork!

If you want great Chinese food China Moon is the place. The dishes are fresh and delicious with a warm, attentive staff and owners. The fried catfish is an amazing presentation and great flavor! My husband and I usually just let our server pick a couple of dishes and we are never disappointed!

My wife and I ate here a few weeks ago during a road trip to Orange County. We had very high hopes given all of the positive reviews, and the meal was excellent until the very end. More on that in a bit. The NY style egg rolls were good - reminded me of my East Coast childhood. The chicken and beef dishes were good, too. Ingredients seemed fresh, food was served piping hot, and the service was super friendly. When we asked for a refill of rice, the meal took a surprising turn. We started to eat the rice, but then noticed that there were scraps of torn-up paper fortunes mixed in with it. Not obviously gross like a bug, but disconcerting...did this bowl come from another table? We called the waiter over, he saw the problem, apologized and took it away. He offered us a free dish of veggies, which we declined, then took a few bucks off the check. His manner changed from charming to very flustered and embarrassed, but he couldn't give us any clear explanation for why another diner's trash was in our rice. Before leaving, we approached the owner to let her know about our experience, so she could take corrective action in the kitchen. She was apologetic as well, indicated that they don't recycle leftover rice, but still couldn't explain what had happened either. Not very confidence inspiring, and we left what was otherwise a nice meal with an icky feeling.

I have been to this place since I was 16. (over 10 years) This is still one of my fav chinese food place in Laguna Niguel Area. The place is clean, neat, especially after the re-model a few years ago. The price on the dishes is very reasonable, and the food is great. The owner is very friendly, they greet with customers. Not like some other chinese resturaunt provided with poor service. thats how they keep old customer like me. I have moved to Seattle for years but this is one place I always visit when I am down in OC again. Keep it up!

maybe it's because i grew up going here, but china moon has some of my favorite chinese food. you know how when you watch an episode of voltron now, it's terrible and you now think it's retarded? well, china moon does none of that to me, which means, it's awesome for everyone. their sizzling rice soup is my favorite. it sizzles. and has rice. and is soup. what else do you want? they have the best honey walnut shrimp. some places it's too much mayonnaise or some places it's wayyyy too much caramelized sugar, but this place makes it perfect. it's the mama bear of honey walnut shrimps. hmmm this review was not that funny. here's a funny picture i drew in my cheap ploy to get more funny votes. s3.amazonaws.com/data.tu…

I wouldn't call this place an authentic Chinese restaurant. It's more PF Chang than whatever-Chinese-restaurants-you-can-find-in-San Gabriel. It's been a real challenge to find a good Chinese restaurants in Laguna/Aliso area. This was recommended to me by my coworkers who take a field trip to this restaurant once a week. One of them was the fuzziest eater, so since he loves this place so much, I figured it couldn't be that bad. It's a bit hard to find if you don't know the area since it's kinda hidden. It's smacked in the middle of a Pet Spa and Vetenarian. We arrived around 8ish for late dinner, but it was still pretty crowded. Waited a couple mins before we were seated. Not a big deal. The first thing we noticed was the huge wine collections. Definitely not authentic Chinese! How many authentic Chinese places have you seen with wine collections? Prices are definitely on the higher side and the portions are on the smaller side, but the food was really good. We ordered pot stickers, Dan Dan noodle, and shrimp and scallop dish (sorry, can't remember the name). Their Dan Dan Noodle is probably the closest to my favorite noodle dish from this Sizhuan restaurant in SF I grew up eating. The Mr. loved the shrimp and scallop dish. The pot stickers were good, but nothing too special, will probably skip next time. My coworkers loved their salt&pepper calamari, so next time, we'll probably try that. We were very impressed by the service. Our waiters came to check on us every few minutes to make sure we were okay with our drinks and food. It looked like the owner knew all his customer; he realized we were first timers, he came to introduce himself to us, which we thought was really nice. As a welcome, he also sent over a plate of Orange Chicken on the house. How nice was that? If you are looking for a cheap, authentic Chinese food, you may want to look elsewhere. This is definitely not it. But, we really liked the food, so we'll most likely be back.

decided to try this place out cuz I always drive by. The moment we walked in, I knew it would be great because it was SO CROWDED. The food was great and the service was very good as well. It's always great to have a great chinese spot near your house to go to.

My parents are nuts about this place. They take me every time I come visit them. I don't love love Chinese food by any means but this place is pretty good. It is not greasy like I have come to expect of Chinese food. The two regular guy servers are a riot and always make great recommendations. I particularly loved the Lion Head meatballs. Yum!

I really wanted to like this place but the food was simply mediocre. Had the salt/pepper calimari which was overly breaded and tasteless. Kung pau chicken lacked any bite and was cloying with hoisen sauce. Dan dan noodle was made with spaghetti and sauce was pasty and sweet. Wait staff were terrific as was the service. But food was so Americanized that there was no Chinese character to it.

I tried this place for lunch today because I LOVE sizzling rice soup and being new to the area, I was in need of finding my local sizzling rice joint! Although this is a good 20 minutes from my place in mission viejo, it was well worth it. The soup was a generous portion for a small size, delicious, extremely fresh tasting ingredients...i think it took me a couple spoonfuls before I decided that this met my standards because I am used to sizzling rice soup having TONS of flavor, and although this soup was fantastic, it didn't completely blow me away. But I will definitely be back...the food is really high quality, the ambiance is pleasant, the place is clean, the service is good...and the little fried wontons they serve with the hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce at the beginning were not greasy at all and were just perfect! Happy :)

Came here for dinner with my brothers and their families. Used Yelp solely to pick the place. Used to having great Chinese food in the Chinese neighborhoods. Food was very good and the service was excellent. I've had better Chinese food but this place is a keeper. The service itself puts this restaurant for me at 4.5. This is the type of service that all restaurants should strive for.

I heard about this place on yelp and decided to try it out. Service is phenomenal -Andy addressed me by name, felt like part of the family. I had the sizzling rice soup (small serves 2 easily). Very yummy. The special beef was very good, not so crispy as described but good. I all definitely come back-the lynch prices are very good. The waiter Andy was awesome, addressed me by name and his service was phenomenal-best Chinese in south orange county for sure. Atmosphere inside very nice.

What a great place for dinner! It might be a little hidden but it is well worth finding. The Two Flavor Shrimp is the absolute best Chinese dish I have ever eaten and instantly is now my favorite. OMG SO GOOD. The service was top notch and I really appreciated how fun and welcome they made us feel. Great Food, Great Service = My new favorite Chinese restaurant.

Exquisite Chinese food and fantastic service. We are originally from Los Angeles and know our Chinese food. Searched in vain for awhile until we found China Moon. Our excellent waiter, Shu, recommended the special -- four hour cooked meatballs and cabbage -- absolutely delicious!

My wife and I have been big fans of China Moon for many years. We love their aromatic shrimp in a tangy sweet/ sour sauce. We usually eat inside the restaurant but tonight we just wanted a relaxing dinner at home...so we ordered Take Out. Well I ordered the green beans, won ton soup, aromatic shrimp and the pan fried noodles. When I got home I was disappointed in the pan fried noodles. There was a container of a pile of fried noodles and then a container of sauce with vegetables. It was not what I was expecting...I was expecting it to be mixed together both sauce and noodles. Well I called back to lodge my complaint and Johnathon, the manager, said he would make it right and asked me to come back for an order of Lo Mein which had the soft noodles and vegetables mixed together. He said the pan fried noodles were prepared that way for take out so they would not be too messy. I thanked him very much for making it right....and we continue to be " happy campers " ! By the way, the food was delicious as usual.

Wow, some of the best Chinese I have ever had. My wife and I were craving some Chinese and found this place as one of the best in Orange County. We called them up and ordered some take out hoping for the best. We ordered the spring rolls, which were light, crispy and not at all greasy. The dipping sauce was a sweet and sour sauce that was just perfect. We also had the Ma Po Tofu, which was slightly spicy with a nice ginger flavor to is as well. The last we had was Tofu with veggies and mushrooms. Also delicious. Their jasmine rice was so delicious as well. I can't wait to come eat here again. Ever since I ate there, I just want to eat there again. If you haven't been, you MUST go.

You know what? Not bad at all. Now, I wouldn't say it's the best Chinese food in Orange County (compared to what?!), but I would definitely say this is one of the better ones out there. We really liked the crispy, spicy fish filet of sole that we got. Although, it could've been a smidgen more spicier. But, that's what the chili paste is for. We loved it and we'd so go back just for that one.

Pretty much the best Chinese food you will find. Big entrée portions, enough for 2. Small soup fed two, plus leftovers. Just went for first time, met owner, super service and well worth a visit.

Despite their thoughtful gift of handiwipes, I left thoroughly duckified. Someone was silly enough to leave the whole roasted duck down on my end and I have NO IDEA where it went *burp*. I swear I was only intending to have a taste, a little nibble, and then it was gone. I can't explain it. Great service, good food. Egg rolls porky, not too greasy. Mu shu very fresh. Kung pao a bit sweet, but that's not unusual. Shrimp in black bean sauce was good but not as good as Golden Dragon's, though the onions were still crisp and half-raw which is actually a nice counterpoint to the salty beans and the fatty duck. Mmm, duck. Maybe one more nibble...

Went there today for the first time. What a surprise when you walk in. Appears to be a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant in a strip mall, but is a very nice place inside, elegant, but comfortable. The food was fantastic. We ordered the calamari as well as pot stickers for appetizers. Our waitress suggested we add a cucumber salad as well. We did, wow, what a great suggestion that was. It was fantastic, and provided a really nice balance to the rich appetizers. The main courses were excellent too, very fresh and high quality. Excellent, attentive, but not smothering, service. The hot green tea is excellent. What a great spot. We will definitely be back.

So after weeks (literally weeks) of trying to convince my stubborn New Yorker of a boyfriend to get chinese food in Southern California, he finally succumbed to the glorified China Moon Yelp reviews. And thank god!!!! My chinese food craving was finally satisfied! And....they served great duck sauce with our egg rolls which fully satisfied my New Yorker's duck obsession. The food is very PF Chang's-y (i definitely taste that Americanized chinese food) but I loved every bit of it! Our waitress was kind of attitudey but the host and other male waiters were adorable. One brought me a sqwiggly straw in my sprite and the other kept sporadically throwing in little funny lines. The decor of the place was surprisingly nice with actual booth seats, a mural on the ceiling, classy bambo, and a wall of wine. Normally I consider Chinese food to be a strictly take-out experience, but China Moon may have changed my dining-in habits,

First time China Moon customer and it will be the last. Last night we ordered food to go. After reading all the great reviews on Yelp we were really excited to finally find a good Chinese restaurant in the Aliso Viejo area. Unfortunately the food was not very good at all. While the food was fresh it had no taste...bland food. We know good Chinese food and this is not good Chinese food. You are better off going to Trader Joe's and buying their Chinese food..

Shrimp two ways... I wish I could marry you. The sizzling rice soup, awesome presentation, could use some more flavor. But the shrimp... so good.

As the old saying goes, you only receive one chance to make a first impression. Where most businesses these days don't seize the opportunity, China Moon has really achieved in this area. I cant remember the last time I was wowed by customer service. Small business owners need to take note as china moon has layed out the blue print on how to make your business thrive and create a buzz. And by the way the food was excellent too. Ma La Chicken, Beef & Brocolli, and yummy Admiral Shrimp are just a few recommendations.....Cant wait to go back.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Delicious appetizers, soups and main courses. The staff, including owner Vanissa, are friendly and attentive. The restaurant is fairly non-descript from the outside, but is clean, modern and nicely appointed on the interior. Being slightly off the beaten path, you could easily miss this place, but this little gem is worth finding! We dined here on early on a Saturday evening, and by the time we left (around 6:30 p.m.), the place was jam-packed with even more people waiting outside! I would suggest making reservations for dinner, which are available up until 4:30 p.m. the same day. Enjoy!

I went here with my wife and daughter on a Saturday night about an hour before closing. After reading reviews we ordered wonton soup, n.y egg rolls (as I am from Manhattan and miss them dearly), their special meatball dish & chow fun, oh and we asked for tea. The wonton soup I thought very mediocre, the egg rolls inner skin was very soggy and chewy, the meatball tasted to me like the stuffing from the wontons in the soup and the chow fun was good. I recieved my bill and was charged for tea (first time ever) and we were brought white rice with our dinner (we were not asked if we wanted this) and were charged for that as well! I will not be back, I was very dissapointed in the quality of the food after the reviews I read on yelp. The service was good. I would not go back to a restaraunt with bad food and good service. Many years ago I went to a restaraunt in NYC chinatown called BOBO's. They always (even in the dead of freezing winter) had a line down the block. Service was awful, food was outstanding! There was a sign on the wall that said "if you don't like our attitude then leave, there is always somebody waiting to take your seat...surprisingly (as a result of the wonderful food), there alwways was!

My favorite Chinese restaurant! The food is always delicious, the servers are always attentive and joyful and the owners (Hi Jackson!) are very nice. We often order dishes with ingredient edits and they are always accomdating and get it right.

Had an early lunch with wifey today as she's been wanting to take me back to this place. We dined here a while ago and I was not impressed so I was eager to see of things had changed. We ordered two lunch specials; beef and broccoli and aromatic shrimp which came with soup, white rice, and an eggroll. Service was quick and efficient; however; there is nothing on the table such as hot mustard, soy sauce, etc. so we had to ask for any condiments. Fortunately it was not that busy so this didn't become an issue. Now as far as the food here's the "rundown". Both main dishes definitely were made from either precooked, frozen, or microwaved foods which was a real disappointment as all the food should have been "freshly" prepared in a wok for the prices being charged The soup was OK but came out just warm and was pretty bland to say the least as it required a lot of condiments to flavor it. The eggroll was a joke as it was only as long and wide as my little finger which isn't saying much. Once again, I'm disappointed by this place. Lunch with two iced teas was $25 which is not a value for the quality of the food received. Sorry, "Yelpers" this is not my place to go for Chinese food.

Definitely the best Chinese food available in the area-- I will give it that. The service is attentive, the atmosphere is nice, and it is generally not too noisy. It is just as good for takeout as it is dine-in. The food is consistent, and generally flavorful and well-prepared. However, I don't see the need for such a high premium on what is decent food. If you're buying a "safe-bet" for dinner, I guess it's worth it. The appetizers generally are pretty greasy and not quite "cooked to perfection." I do enjoy the sizzling rice soup. The entrees really are what makes the meal. My favorites are the uber-rich sesame shrimp and standbys orange chicken and Mongolian beef. I wouldn't discourage you from going there, but don't bank on it being the best Chinese food you've ever had, either. I prefer Peking Dragon.

The 'off-menu' paper steak as recommend by our server Shu was delicious. The service here really shines. Warm atmosphere, great ambiance inside. Just go.

I rate China Moon a four, but I'm not a fan of the beef lettuce wraps. Just not the same as chicken. Either the beef was bad or they're just not good. Maybe that's why China Moon was having a special. Hmmmm!

China moon is a great local restaurant. The food is consistently good and the service is always great. It is a family run biz and they do an excellent job at making you feel like family when you come. The food is not your typical greasy chinese food often found in the states, but it's not your authentic Chinese food either. They have done an excellent job fitting the food to the tastes of the community.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
